Alfred Marano, age 96 years, former longtime resident of Hunterdon County, New Jersey, died on Monday, October 12, 2015 at the home of his daughter Joanne in Virginia.
Born in New York City May 23, 1919, he was the son of Salvatore and Giovannia Marano. Raised in Manhattan as a first generation American, he served in the United States Navy during WWII.
A shared love of motorcycles brought Alfred and the former Margaret Connelly together in marriage. They started their family in Rhode Island and then moved to Brooklyn, where Alfred, trained as a machinist, worked for the American Can Company for 30 years. After retirement, they moved to their farm in Hunterdon County and enjoyed a long and happy life.
Alfred was preceded in death by his wife Margaret, his brother Antonino Marano, a sister, Frieda Califano, and his daughter, Catherine Ackerman.
Surviving are 2 daughters, 2 sons, 2 sons-in-law, 1 daughter-in-law, 9 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren.
Graveside services will be at noon on Saturday, October 24, 2015 in Locust Grove Cemetery, Quakertown, NJ under the care of Wright and Ford Family Funeral Home, Flemington New Jersey.
