Andrew Frank “Andy” Camp, age 67 years, of Raritan Township, NJ, died peacefully on Thursday, April 2, 2015 at his home after a short but valiant battle with kidney cancer.
Born in Bay Shore, Long Island, NY, July 26, 1947, son of the late Elburt and Patricia Furey Camp, he had resided in the area since 1991, having formerly lived in Berkeley Heights, NJ.
Andy attended Biscayne College in Florida and returned home to assist his family when his father died at a young age. Always a family man, he was a true genuine person who loved having a good time. He was a communicant of St. Magdalen Church, Flemington, NJ.
He retired in 2014 from Frederick Wildman & Sons, Summit, NJ where he had worked for over forty years as a wine and liquor salesman.
Andy enjoyed to play pool and was involved in various leagues and tournaments throughout the years. He loved his dogs and had a passion for music; if a trivia contest involved music, Andy was the one you wanted on your team.
He was a great poker player and enjoyed many years of playing cards in the neighborhood with friends. To repeat a quote recently stated to Andy in his final days by his close friend, Ron Van Horn, “There is a Royal Flush hand waiting for you in heaven!”
If any quote though could describe the essence of Andy, it was a quote that his wife Mary found in a Wildwood, NJ local newspaper on one of their trips down to the shore over the years. By J. Krishnamurti, it reads, “There is great happiness in not wanting, in not being something, in not going somewhere.”
Surviving are his wife, Mary K. Rodgers Camp with whom he joined hands in marriage on June 8, 1984; his son and longtime girlfriend, Andrew George Camp and Laura Feigin of Lambertville, NJ; four sisters, Victoria Furey of Easton, MD, Dorothy Sweeney and Linda Camp, both of Long Branch, NJ and Michelle Granza of Easton, MD; several nieces and nephews; several great nieces and great nephews; and many friends.
Memorial services will take place on Sunday, April 12, 2015 at 1:00 p.m. in Wright & Ford Family Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 38 State Highway 31, Flemington, NJ, preceded by a memorial visitation from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service.
