Anne Eugenia De Vito, age 74 years, of Ringoes, NJ, died at Good Shepherd Specialty Hospital, Bethlehem, PA, on Sunday, September 12, 2021.
Born on June 29, 1947 in Brooklyn, NY, daughter of the late John F. and Eugenia “Jennie” Martysheck Stanczuk, she was raised in the Greenpoint section of Brooklyn, NY, before moving to Flemington, NJ in 1968. She and her cherished husband, Michael, then moved to Ringoes in 1971 where she has resided ever since.
A caregiver and nurturer by heart, Anne was a longtime office manager for Hunterdon Prevention Resources, now known as Prevention Resources. She was known by her colleagues and the community as a woman of valor and grit in that she strove to ensure all the clients and their families were well cared for on every level.
Non-judgmental and simply caring for strangers as she did family, she was generous with both her time and talents. Anne was a true original in all she did and what she did usually was helping others in some way; she was fond of being known as “Anne-a-Claus” year round, and made sure that everyone felt as though they had a family with her and her family.
Anne’s soft voice and her distinct Brooklyn accent allowed her to knock down any barriers that one had when they met her, and usually within a few minutes it was as if they were old, longtime friends.
Meeting her future husband when the two were set up on a date by her cousin, theirs was an instant attraction and Michael remembers that he just knew she was something special. Their courtship was swift, and it was when Michael left for the service during Vietnam that he knew Anne was the one for him. They would wed on September 7, 1968 at St. Alphonsus Church, Brooklyn, NY and recently celebrated fifty-three years of marriage. He credits their longevity to love and trust.
Their union would bring the couple three children who made their mother proud daily, and the next generation which gave Anne a new reason to smile each day. She was a dotting grandmother and there was not an event of her grandchildren’s that she would miss.
Having many hobbies, she greatly enjoyed the beach, particularly the Jersey Shore at Long Beach Island, which is humorous as if you knew Anne, you know she could not swim! That did not stop her though as she would be busy planning the parties and festivities of the trip that would involve her cooking many dishes; from Italian to Russian to Polish foods, she was an amazing chef. This of course would be complemented by the perfect bottle of chardonnay and a Cosmo shot or two.
A longtime communicant of St. Magdalen Church, Flemington, NJ, faith was an important part of Anne’s life. Though there is sadness in her death, her family takes solace that she is now their guardian angel, directing them still with the wisdom only she was able to provide.
In true selfless Anne spirit, even in death she is giving as she donated her corneas to allow someone else to have the gift of sight.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her nephews, Christopher and Joey Certo, as well as by her brother-in-law, Richard “Ricky” De Vito.
Surviving are her husband, Michael Joseph De Vito, Sr.; her children and their spouses, Michael J. De Vito, Jr. and Erica, Todd J. and Meredith De Vito, and Renee and Jeffrey Lavish; her grandchildren, Marisa De Vito, Graham De Vito, April De Vito, Gabriele De Vito, Colin Lavish, and Nicholas Lavish; her brother and sister-in-law, John and Rosemarie Stanczuk; her brothers-in-law and sister-in-law, George De Vito, Danny De Vito, and Kathy Certo; several nieces, nephews and extended family; and many dear friends.
