My deepest condolences to the Granato family on the tragic loss of Tony, especially to his daughters, sister Laura, parents Mr. and Mrs. Granato, and nephew Dominic. I knew Tony as the little brother of my friend Laura and not as “Dr. Granato.” Laura and I met in elementary school and I would often ride my bike to her house to play. Sometimes Tony would play with us. Laura and Tony always had a close relationship – they were close in age and both were whip smart! They shared some interests and had some of the same friends. They won the school science fair together one year, which made the news. I met Tony again at a wedding and my husband and I were both impressed with what a wonderful young man he was. He still had his boyish good looks as an adult and was now a doctor! Tony introduced us to his beautiful family and made us feel so welcome. He and Laura still had the close bond of brother and sister they had as children which was heartwarming to see. It was disbelief when Laura shared his diagnosis and I learned he had passed. He was much too young and had so much to give this world. I hope Tony’s remarkable life and memories of him as a loving father, brother, son, and uncle bring comfort and peace. My deepest sympathy, Laura Lough, née Freedell
God bless the Granato family. My husband Tom and I were privileged to have had Dr. Granato as our pulmonologist. We remember him fondly as a caring, friendly, professional doctor that always made you feel at ease. He was sincerely interested in us as people and had a good sense of humor that we always appreciated! We enjoyed conversations with Dr. Granato about what is important in life, faith and family. He was proud of his girls and their musical abilities. I enjoyed playing piano for the R.F.I.S. Orchestra concerts that Dr. Granato’s girls performed in over several years. It was a joy to talk about the concerts with him and he was very proud of his daughters! We were unaware of his medical condition as we have moved out of state, and want to extend our sympathy and prayers to Dr. Granato’s sister, daughters, and family for the loss of this beloved man and respected, excellent Doctor.

I just recently learned of Dr. Granato's passing. He was a kind and caring physician. I only met with him a couple of times and he treated me like someone he knew for years. We talked about parenting daughters and we discussed vacationing at Disney. He was a warm person and I will never forget how he made me feel at ease as we discussed my results. My he Rest in Peace.
I am saddened to learn of Dr. Granato’s struggle and his passing. My heart and thoughts are with his family, and pray he is now at peace. I was a patient of his for many years, and he was also so kind, caring, and encouraging, not only when it came to my health but life in general. I remember one time when I saw him a few years ago, we’d been talking about my husband and I and how we wanted to have a family but we weren’t ready and wanted to get our “ducks in a row” first, but we were worried because we were nearing 40. He looked at me and smiled and just said, “You’ll never have all your ducks in a row. You’ll never truly be ready. If you want it, you just have to go for it.” I will never forget that moment because it is what pushed us to start our journey to having a family, which it turned out, was a long one and required fertility treatment. If we had waited longer, who knows if we would’ve gotten our baby girl. I will be forever grateful to him for all he did over the years, and he will be missed.

Peace of mind is a call away. We’re here when you need us most.
Dr. Granato was an amazing, wonderful, man. One of my many Specialists I have seen over the years. I was first referred to him while pregnant with my daughter who is now 10 yo. He cared for me and helped me. I was so nervous having been going through severe asthma attacks and being pregnant on top of it. He always calmed me down. Made me feel like everything was going to be okay. I never felt like I was just a patient or a number to him. I felt he truly cared about me, and my unborn child. Then, my daughter was born. She, unfortunately, needed a stay in the Special Care Nursery. I will never forget Dr. Granato coming to check on me as my husband and I were on our way to see our daughter. He even came inside to meet her with a smile. Another time he found me in there with her and did my check up while I was there. He didn’t just leave the floor and come back. Or force me away from my newborn. He knew where I needed and wanted to be. He did all of my check ups while I was with her. Although, I was happy I didn’t need to see him for medical reasons thankfully my asthma had cleared up and all he did to help me I felt better. I remember saying to my husband how I wish I could still see him as my PCP. Because he was just that nice. Then, I was pregnant with my son. Who is now 5. I remember seeing Dr. Granato again. He remembered me! I couldn’t believe it. And he couldn’t believe how big my daughter had gotten. She was 4 yo then. He, of course, took excellent care of me. Reassuring me all would be fine like last time. Taking excellent care of me. Having me do follow up care if needed. Well, both my husband and I needed that care and when I called to make us appointments and found out he had passed I was at a lot for words. I started to cry softly on the phone. My heart just broke. He spoke of his daughters with us and of being a Father. And I remember him telling my husband how amazing it truly will be and then how right right he was when our first child was born. I’ll always remember him fondly. My heart is with his daughters who he truly loved so much. And talked about with us often at appointments. I am thinking of you all. Of his family and close friends. I am so grateful I had to the pleasure of being his patient and for having him care for me. Sending my love and positive thoughts to all who loved and cared for him as well. Truly an amazing person. I’ll always remember him and his handsome smile.
Dr. Granato was a caring physician who came to know my entire family. He always took the time to learn about my life and share stories about his family. It was truly an honor to call him my friend. It was his expertise and guidance that changed my life.
He will be missed by so many. I am humbled to be just one of those who will miss him. On behalf of my husband Barry and myself, please accept our deepest sympathy on his passing. I am confident that his light will continue to guide all of us. Sincerely, Karen Pelletteri
Rest in peace Doctor Granato. You will be missed but not forgotten.
My thoughts are with Dr Granato's family at this time. He was my dr since my girls were in brownies & one of his daughters were in brownies too. I remember decorating at the sweetheart dance, that he attended with one of his girls.
I am also grateful as I came for a routine check up & had a high heart rate. He told me I needed to see a cardiologist. I listened to him & that turned into them finding calcium build up around my heart, my heart beating & sometimes stopping. I then got the care & treatment I needed.
Even simple vitals on a patient & it was not just a routine thing for Dr Granato, he cared.
I never knew he was ill, I hope he didn't suffer. He will be missed. xx
Years ago, I was hospitalized due to an allergic reaction. Dr. Granato was one of the doctors who saw me. He shared that he was familiar with allergies as one of his kids was allergic. I asked which doctor he used, and he told me. How nice! Then when I saw him ongoing in his office, he shared how much he love driving around in his convertible! So human and such a skilled physician! I am so sorry that I wasn't able to say farewell to him. It was a blessing to have known him.
I’m saddened to learn of the passing of Doc Granato, He was treating me throughout my Fire Service Career, and the after effects of 911 my exposures to unknown toxins to numerous to count was a passion that Doc had spent countless hours on investigating and treating, I was forced into retirement after serving 28 years, with numerous injuries, and Doc always pulled me through , He was a special person, I’ll never forget him ! My most tender condolences to the family of Tony Granato. He was the kindest sweetest person I’ve ever met and a great Dad and Doctor.
Rest easy Tony, see you on the other side…
I worked with Tony at HMC. He was one of the few doctors who let me call him by his first name. I remember the first time he came back after he had been out for a while and I saw him on my floor (5 South). He was rounding with one of his colleagues and I stopped him in the hall and asked if I could give him a hug. That’s how glad I was to see him again. I miss him.
Sunny days will not be quite as bright without you.

Anthony Granato was part of my care team as I began to navigate through my health issues related to Lyme Disease. He always took time to talk to me about his loving family and how much he admired teachers, especially his mother. He would beam with pride while talking about his daughters. His compassion and knowledge were always a comfort to me, and his passing will leave a void that can never be filled. My thoughts and prayers are with his family as they move forward. I for one will always have a place in my heart for Tony, and his gentle compassion he exuded in his practice of pulmonary medicine.

One of my favorite students...My deepest sympathy...
It is with a heavy heart that I need to write this message.
Tony was my pulmonologist as well as my husband’s and a co-worker at HMC. We had many conversations regarding his battle with cancer. He gave it his all in order to survive for his family. He loved you all and was proud of your accomplishments.
He was the most knowledgeable, compassionate and caring physician I have ever known. He is now at peace and no longer struggles with this disease. He will continue to watch over you all as your guardian Angel. God bless you all as you make your way through this difficult time.

Tony was my physician for about 15 years. He always was warm and kind. We would talk about our kids; it was obvious how much he loved his girls. I admired his self-sacrifice in treating patients even when battling his own medical issues. He was one of the nicest doctors I’ve had. It was an honor to have known him. My prayers for his family, friends, and his medical staff; may God comfort you at this time.
With my deepest sympathy for your loss.
Tony was my late husband George Gardner’s pulmonologist.
George and Tony shared many stories on his appointments.
The one thing that I remember, is Tony always joked around with George and said he wanted to be George Gardner just for one day in his life.
Tony was a friend, and was my go to doctor even after George passed, for my parents as well.
When George passed away, Tony came to see him one last time.
He asked me if he had his Smiley Face Sleepy pants on, which they had joked about on one of our many appointments.
So, Tony always put everyone else first.
I am honored to have known him.
I wish you all peace in this time of sorrow.
My thoughts and prayers are with you all.

Dr. Granato and I met at Cornell University Medical College, where we became friends and study group partners during those intense first two years. He was a source of support, wisdom, and very good humor. He later hosted me when I interviewed for medical residencies, and we relived those challenging yet fun years of training together. He earned his great name as physician and father. May his memory be for a blessing.
DR.Granato was a dedicated, caring,Dr with such compassion for his patients. H÷ never rushed you during your appointment and always listened . He had a heart of gold always smiling ..Thank you for taking care of me for so many years. May You Rest In God's Eternal Peace?

Dr. Granato took care of my mother in 2007 and that’s when I first met him. Shortly thereafter, he diagnosed me with COPD. My mother passed in 2008 at the age of 94. My husband and I retired to South Carolina and remained there for 11 years. We decided to move back to NJ. Last year around this time I was diagnosed with lung cancer. Dr. Granato, being his wonderful self, showed me which doctors to see and where to get treatment all the while keeping a check on me and unbeknownst to me, being ill himself. I am so heartbroken. My cancer is in remission all because of his knowledge and guidance. I will never, ever forget him and will pray always. I am so sorry for your loss and pray that God will bless and comfort the Granato family.

Tony touched many of people’s hearts with his kind and professional care. Rest in peace Tony.
He didn't make you feel like his patient but his friend. What an amazing compassionate man. I will never forget how he took care of my mother. I'm sure I'm one of many patients whose lives he impacted. He will be greatly missed.
Tony is my cousin. As l told my sister a few days ago ~ The world has lost one of the best. He has gone home to Heaven.
Our deepest condolences to all who love him. There are many.
But especially to his father- my Uncle Dominic , his mother- my Aunt Susan, his three precious daughters, and my cousin Laura- his sister.
I had 5 decades to make more memories with Tony. There are many, but there could have been many more.
I had the pleasure to engage in very spiritual conversations with him a few times this past year and a half. My Lord, We would have moments of laughter and yet speak of acceptance of God''s will for us. Spoke of life's principles. The importance of helping others and staying humble were all part of these phone conversations. How we could have stayed in touch over the years with a simple phone call. How life is a continuous mountain to climb and to enjoy the view getting better as we rest and then climb more.
I have wonderful memories of Tony. I wish l had more. His smile was contagious.
The last time we spoke we shared our memories. We spoke for an hour and a half. It was priceless.
May all of you cherish the memories you have and be grateful for them always.
In faith and love,
Jerry and Sarah

I had the privilege of working alongside Dr. Granato when he worked in the ICU at HMC. He was ambitious, an excellent Critical Care physician and most of all, so compassionate towards his patients. I watched him make patients smile at the bedside, which was more powerful than any medicine could do. Whenever he would talk about his 3 girls, his face would light up with pride. Rest in peace Tony, I will keep your family in my thoughts and prayers.

I met Tony in 2008 while working as a Physical Therapist at Hunterdon Medical Center. He was the most friendly, approachable physician I had ever had the pleasure of working with! Always smiling, taking the time to ask how I was doing and always had a compliment for me! I found him to be bright, knowledgeable, caring and a real team player! He was never in a rush,he took his time with his patients and everyone loved, respected and admired him. Soon thereafter, I became his patient. He took the utmost care of me, providing a quick diagnosis and swift excellent treatment. I had the pleasure of seeing him every 6 months. My deepest condolences to the Granato family. Words cannot express how much Tony has meant to our community over the past years, to both his patients and colleagues alike. He was completely genuine, quietly brilliant, a trusted leader and gentle soul. He was never too busy to discuss a challenging case, or to encourage me in my efforts, or to show compassion and guidance to anyone who needed it. He was a very rare and wonderful man, confident without being arrogant, gifted but sincere and humble. I am grateful to have known him and honored to have called him my friend. As word has spread of his passing, I am amazed at the number of people he touched and that every one remarks on his brilliance and kindness. I wish peace to him now, and to his family who certainly are broken hearted at this difficult time. I hope you are comforted to know that he will never be forgotten or replaced.

My deepest condolences to his family. My 76yo mother is heartbroken. He was not only her trusted doctor for a rare and complicated lung condition but she considered him a friend who she often had long conversations with during her appointments. I’m sure many of his patients felt the same. My deepest sympathies to his whole family specially his daughters. I too lost my father to colon cancer around the same age. Another reason my mother is deeply saddened as she too lost her husband to the same illness. May his memories be shared often and he will live on.

I haven’t known Tony for very long, but I know his daughter, she is one of the best things that have happened to me. And I know that because of Tony, she is a wonderful person and she is such a loving and caring daughter, I didn’t see Tony near the end but I knew he was in good hands with Amelia by his side. When I did see him, he was always so kind and happy, I can see where Amelia gets that from, I’ll miss him when I come over to her house and he doesn’t greet me at the door, or when school festivities happen and I am unable to say hi and ask how things are going. I’m going to miss him a lot, but I want to let whoever is reading this to know, that I can look after Amelia and maybe if Tony is reading this now, I hope he knows that she is in good hands and I’ll love her enough for the two of us. Thank you, Tony, for being so patient and understanding, it means the world to not only Amelia, but to me too, seeing how happy you made her made me happy too. You did good Tony, you did good.
I am so deeply saddened to learn of Dr. Granato's passing. I have never in my life met a physician like him. For more than ten years, I have always thought that I was going to see a friend rather than a physician. In fact t, a good portion of my appointments were spent talking about the ups and downs of our personal lives rather than my health. That said, he was an excellent physician who changed my life when he diagnosed and treated my sleep apnea. He shared so much with me, and I will miss him terribly. To his family, please know that this man was loved by so many. He was a truly remarkable person who has left us much, much too early.

Dr. Granato was an absolutely amazing, compassionate, and caring doctor. He first treated my dad and as they talked about their daughters, Dr. Granato encouraged my dad to get me in as it sounded like I needed him as well. He always talked to me about my dad and his daughters and he very clearly cared so much about you. Dr. Granato’s bedside manner and true care for his patients was always beyond appreciated. He will be truly missed. My mother and I send love and gratitude to his family for sharing him with us all these years.

I was a patient of his practice seeing other doctors and every time I wanted to make an appointment to see him his schedule was always double booked. I never got to meet him and I’m sad!! My condolences to the family and friends especially his children. Doctor definitely earned his Angel wings of helping others and treating patients with respect and now rewarded in Heaven for all the love and caring he gave others. Rest Easy doctor

We are sad to learn of Dr Granato passing. As patients of his for a number of years he
never failed to express his concern and at times joy over how we were doing.
May God Bless him.
Dr. Grenado was my physician for about 10 years. When I would have an appointment with him, we would first talk about our lives and families. Then he would, of course, check my vitals. Over the years, we were more than doctor and patient, we were friends. He also saw my husband later on and made every effort to help him with the problems he had. Unfortunately, my husband passed. When I saw Dr. Grenado next, as I was checking out, he said I looked like I needed a hug. I did, and he gave me one. I will always be grateful to have had such a kind person in my life. God bless.

I did not know Dr. Granato personally but felt like I did as both my parents were patients of his. They would always speak so glowingly of the care mom he gave to them and his personal touch made them feel more like his friend than a patient. I always deeply admired his fortitude to deliver such loving care to his patients while battling his own serious illness for such a long period of time. Certain people in life are just special and I can tell he was one of them without ever even meeting him. Sending prayers to Dr. Granato, his loved ones, and all those he impacted. God bless!

What an amazing person and what a remarkable life. A lot of people have been fortunate to have him as their doctor, but I was blessed to have him as my cousin. He adored his girls and was so proud of each one of them. His infectious smile would light up any room.
I pray that you all find comfort in the special memories you made together and knowing how much he will be missed.
Much love
