Carole R. Jacobson, age 81 years, of Raritan Township, NJ, died on Sunday, July 10, 2016 at Independence Manor, Raritan Township, NJ.
Born February 10, 1935 in New York City, NY, daughter of the late Daniel and Sally Leader Gold, she had resided in Raritan Township since 1970, having formerly lived in Plainfield, NJ.
Carole obtained her B.A. in English from the University of Pennsylvania and then continued to earn a M.A. in English from Columbia University. At the age of forty, after her children were grown, she returned to school and earned her J.D. from Rutgers University School of Law.
For over twenty-five years, Carole worked as an attorney with the Atlantic City Casino Control Commission where she was well known and admired for her intelligence, wit and caring nature.
First and foremost though, Carole would want her legacy to be that of loving and dedicated wife, mother, grandmother and friend.
She was a devoted member of the community whose quest for knowledge and to expand her horizons was never quenched as she wanted to make a difference and better the lives of all around her.
Her children were taught at an early age the values of respect and being civic-minded.
She was involved in many local organizations, among them serving as the President of the Hunterdon Central School Board for two terms and President of both the Plainfield, NJ and Hunterdon County, NJ League of Women Voters.
She was an advocate for what was right and fair to all and in 1979, was the first woman candidate to run for the position of Freeholder in Hunterdon County, a position which she lost by just the slightest of margins. Even though she did not win that election, she brought many ideas to the county that sought to better the lives of all who live here.
Surviving are her husband of fifty-four years, David S. Jacobson, with whom she joined hands in marriage on January 28, 1962; three children and their spouses, Robin Engelson and her husband, Larry Yogel of Minneapolis, MN and Naples, FL, Mark and Anneliese Jacobson of Raritan Township, NJ and Brad and Chava Jacobson of Brooklyn, NY; five grandchildren, Shoshana Engelson, Daniel Engelson, Hannah Jacobson, Sara Jacobson and Sasha Jacobson; a brother, Stephan Gold; a sister-in-law, Lita Sokol; and many dear friends.
Funeral Services officiated by Rabbi Jacob Malki will take place on Tuesday, July 12, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. in the Flemington Jewish Community Center, 5 Sergeantsville Road, Flemington, NJ under the care and direction of Wright & Ford Family Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 38 State Highway 31, Flemington, NJ.
