Chris Voss, age 71 years, of Raritan Township, NJ, died peacefully on Thursday November 16, 2023 at Overlook Medical Center, Summit, NJ, surrounded by his beloved family.
Chris was born in Syracuse, NY on June 25, 1952 to the late Charles William and Esther Jane Voss and older brother, Gary Voss. Shortly after Chris’ birth, the family moved to Geneva, NY. From a young age, Chris showed himself to be an active child with an interest in the great outdoors. It was during the many summers that the family spent vacationing on Oneida Lake where Chris discovered his love of swimming. He was a member of the Varsity swim team in high school and swam at the collegiate level while he attended Brockport State College as a math and economics major.
Upon graduating in 1974, Chris began working for AT&T in White Plains, NY as a computer programmer. Fate stepped in and on Chris’ first day of work, he met his future wife, Adriana Del Savio. Chris proposed to Adriana in Saint Patrick’s Cathedral in December of 1976 and the couple were married on October 8, 1977 at Immaculate Conception Church in Tuckahoe, NY. They purchased their first home in Tuckahoe in 1978. It was this old house that ignited a love of do-it-yourself home improvement projects within Chris. Chris and Adriana filled this home with love and laughter, welcoming their three wonderful sons, Erich, Keith, and Daniel. When not enjoying time with his family, Chris found his love of local theatre as a member of the Fatima Players at Our Lady of Fatima Church in Scarsdale, NY where he performed in numerous musicals and plays.
Work transferred the family to Flemington, NJ in the summer of 1991. Here Chris continued to take an active role in his sons’ lives, serving as a soccer coach for all three boys’ teams as well as Assistant Scoutmaster in the Boy Scouts. An Eagle Scout himself, Chris was proud to introduce his sons to the world of scouting and watched with pride as they achieved the rank of Eagle Scout as well. During these years, he continued to excel at work and was recognized for his dedication and skill at the National Computerworld Smithsonian Awards in 1992. Chris was a project manager for the Y2K preparation and worked as a project manager consultant for various firms after retiring from AT&T.
Chris was a true outdoorsman who was never idle. He loved camping, skiing, canoeing, golfing, fishing, and biking. His idea of relaxation was riding around on his lawnmower and pruning the landscaping! In an attempt to overcome his fear of heights, Chris even went skydiving. Needless to say, he was not cured! Chris was a marathon runner who found great joy in the miles and solace of the open road. He always sought to challenge himself, both professionally and personally. Chris was a 7-time New York City Marathon finisher, traversed the Montreal Marathon, and completed more than two dozen Disney marathons and half marathons.
What Chris loved above all was his family. There was nothing that he wouldn’t do for them and was happiest when surrounded by those he loved. He enjoyed family vacations several times a year to Disney World, the Outer Banks, Long Beach Island, and Clearwater Beach. A passionate, lifelong Buffalo Bills fan, Chris loved to cheer on his favorite team and talk strategy with his sons. He was a selfless husband, father, grandfather, and friend who loved life and people. He will be missed by all who had the great pleasure and honor to know him.
Chris is survived by his devoted wife of 46 years, Adriana; his sons, Erich, Keith and his wife, Claire, and Daniel and his wife, Abigail; and his grandsons, Alexander and Aiden. He is also survived by his sister-in-law, Gail Voss; brother-in-law, Stephen Del Savio and his wife, Laura; cousins John and Mary Norelli, and many nephews, nieces, cousins, and friends
