Christopher H. McCaffrey, age 96 years, of Delaware Township, NJ, died on Wednesday, December 23, 2015 at his home.
Born in Killeshandra, County Cavan, Ireland, September 5, 1919, he was the son of the late Patrick and Brigid Taft McCaffrey. He, along with many of his family, emigrated to the United States in 1949, settling in Hunterdon County, NJ. Christopher became a very proud citizen in 1956.
Working in the maintenance department at Ortho Pharmaceuticals, Raritan, NJ for many years, Christopher will be remembered by his colleagues as well as his family and friends for his dedication and hard work.
In true Irish spirit, his heart was one of the biggest around as he would do anything for anyone. Christopher’s family was his priority and though he never married nor had children of his own, his nieces and nephews as well as his great nieces and great nephews were all treated as if they were his own children. One of his favorite adventures was taking the family into New York City each year for the St. Patrick’s Day parade.
A longtime and faithful communicant of St. Magdalen Church, Flemington, NJ, Christopher loved to garden, be outside enjoying nature, playing with his cherished pets and above all else, just simply enjoying life and the family and friends that he made along the way.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Brigid “Bridie” and two brothers, Patrick and James.
Surviving are his loving and cherished nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, extended family both in the United States and Ireland and many friends.
A Mass of Christian Burial celebrated by Rev. Timothy Christy will take place on Tuesday, December 29, 2015 at 10:00 a.m. in St. Magdalen Church, 105 Mine Street, Flemington, NJ under the care and direction of Wright & Ford Family Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 38 State Highway 31, Flemington, NJ. Interment will follow in the family plot in St. Magdalen Cemetery, North Main Street, Flemington, NJ. Calling hours will be Monday, December 28, 2015 from 6:00-8:00 p.m. in the funeral home.
