Cody Blihar of Somerville, NJ, died tragically on Thursday, January 26, 2023 at the age of 33.
He is survived by his wife Monica, his soon-to-be-born son Beau, his mother Kristen Mehrbach, his father David Blihar, his maternal grandmother Lyn Mehrbach, and his aunts Carrie Sharp, Tara Mehrbach, and Lauren Mehrbach.
Cody grew up on his family’s farm in Pittstown where his lifelong love and respect for animals and the outdoors began. After attending North Hunterdon High School, he began a career in the restaurant industry. In 2015 he met Monica and three years later they were married in Upstate New York. In 2022, after living in NYC, Arizona and Connecticut, they returned to New Jersey to be near family when they discovered they’d be having a son.
Cody had so many gifts, but perhaps the greatest among them was his inherent ability to be fully engaged to make others feel seen, heard, and understood. His dedication to the New York Mets was well-known to those who spent any time with him at all. His love of baseball was so deep and genuine it could only be described as poetic. Cody loved to talk about film, sports, politics, music, frisbee-golf, animals, plant care, and anything he found interesting on NPR, a recent podcast, or something he’d read in the New York Times.
Cody was a keen observer of people, a champion for the underdog. He moved through the world with a magnetic presence. He was wildly hilarious. He was generous to a fault. He was knowledgeable, witty, and never took himself too seriously. Cody will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing and loving him.
Family and friends are invited to gather together to celebrate Cody’s life on Friday, February 17, 2023, from 5:00-8:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Wright & Ford Family Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 38 State Highway 31, Flemington, NJ.
