Not many people get to know a man like Dan Hicks in their lifetime but we did, my friends and I. In our large eccentric, artist filled group of beautiful oddballs, Dan still was able to stand out among the group. His energy, charisma and good-nature were inspiring and ever-present - Dan was always full of spirit, always smiling and it never got old. I will forever cherish the many journeys we embarked on together - the quaint and the strange. We may have drifted apart over the years, like most of the crew did, but like the entire crew, you always remained a central part of my greatest memories. I will miss you, buddy. I hope you find what you were always looking for. Give Mike a pound for me. Peace! To the crew, I miss and love all of ya's! (My number has not changed, call or text any time.) I hope we cross paths again and when we do, we will remember Dan properly! To Dans family, my deepest condolences! May he Rest In Peace! With Love, Justin Offner

May Dan rest in peace. This was unexpected news to hear. Dan was such a unique and funny person! In HS I always was one to laugh (and sometimes get involved) in some of the fun nonsense we all did as teens! Dan was such a great artist and he was known for his great drawings, sense of humor and he was just an all around nice guy and friend to so many! I hope one day we can all reconnect and share some of our fond memories and reminisce together about Dan! He will surly be missed!

Dan was a truly unique character and legendary figure. His art was amazing and his vitality and spirit was second to none. Such a bright light. Gone way too soon. After the crazy times in high school. Dan came to visit me in every single place I lived. Including twice at my current locale. The last time I spoke to Dan he was doing his solar work and he tried to get me connected with some Art peeps he knew in DC because that was the kind of guy he was. A person who looked out for his friends.I The last time I saw him in person was about 10 yrs ago when he rang me up because he was in town installing Solar and I went to have lunch with him at a Mexican restaurant across from where he was working. I wish we stayed in touch more often in these later years. My most cherished memory one on one with Dan was when Justin and Zahra and I lived in Philly. We were in our early twenties and Dan was traveling, studying eastern philosophy and participating in spiritual quests. Dan introduced me to yoga, meditation and Buddhism. He taught me mindful walking, Sun salutation and other yoga poses as well as how to meditate and calm the mind. I remember at the end of our session that lasted a couple hours I was in such a calm almost semi conscious state, eyes closed, when I felt Dan wrap a blanket around me and I opened my eyes and he had peeled an orange and crouching down in front of me with a huge smile he handed me a slice. I never told Dan what a huge impact that experience would have on my life and personal development. Dan was a figure who exuded vitality and life force. I remember one time some of us were in a bar in NYC and there was a group of young ladies at the bar and one of them came up to Dan and took him by the hand and sat him in a chair. She gave him a tasteful bit of a lap dance while singing Happy Birthday Mr. President as if she were Marilyn and he was JFK. Dan had magnetism like that. A true legend. The picture is a duck statue Dan gifted me more than 20 yrs ago. Dan’s art was about sharing. His concept of a Duck Factory was about cranking out as much art as he could share with the world. Thanks for shining your light on the world, my friend. We love you, Legend.

Danny Boy! Host. Turkish Prince: The Subtle Genius Here-last time we spoke I was living inVA you NJ — you told me I was so funny because when you called I answered What up coach! Maybe it’s the Suffolk county accent or just the reminder of late teens- met you in Mr. Cauchis 10 th Grade English Class it was slightly advanced classroom I had no business there- you were right at home- probably smartest one in this class- the teacher loved Dan called him Hicks called me Newman- I did Graffiti and Dan had me write his name on the brim of his baseball hat - Indians hat. We watched-read lord of the flies. Year or so later we were reunited in a similar situation through kids in high school- these kids said we have a friend that is going to get along with you he’s like your twin-same humor-personality-etc. they were right and shocked when we both said that we already met in the prior life. Well this is 32 years ago - I went to his house for his first date? Not intentional his mom did not let him date until 18. Long story. Dan was a sous chef at a restaurant in DC while he was there for college and this was amazing considering h we had not any prior training it was an amazing hipster type joint. He usually did things his way- originally never normal. This is what we enjoy about Dan. His art work was sick-Washington Newspaper once did a write up on his Duck-Factory Character!! He moved to Tempe Arizona for awhile, Moved to Brooklyn for a while. Moved to VA recently I just missed him for this part of the journey. His wedding and Mike Johnson’s funeral- 2 visits to Charleston were some of the last times we got together. During the Pandemic I looked him up-while unemployed and just becoming sober-I was vulnerable/paranoid & low self esteem- even though I knew Dan since 1991-I couldn’t reach out on Linkden!? I observed his Resume and thought I would be a nuisance at this point in life. Figured he was on top of the world and couldn’t be bothered with my weaknesses! I now realize I should of spoke up. Just to drop in and say what up coach! Worlds best imagination always saw something when there was some nothing to see. Peace Dan! Love John Newman Thank you for showing me to stick up for myself and for my friends!!
