Dolores Zuber, age 89 years, of Raritan Township, NJ, died peacefully on Thursday, March 23, 2023, at Hunterdon Care Center.
Born on January 12, 1934, in Newark, NJ, daughter of the late Dave and Rose DeMaio Chaiken, her early years were spent in Newark before moving when she was a teenager to Hillside, NJ. She would later move to Rahway, NJ, and then to Fords, NJ, prior to moving to Clinton in 2000.
Truly a matriarch in every sense, Dolores was the caring mother of five-Hillary, Jeffrey, Scott, Shelley, and Risa. She provided her children with a stable, loving environment that was based on strong moral values and her home was a base that all the local neighborhood children also called ‘home’.
After raising her family and seeing that they were set with their own futures, Dolores would return to work as a legal secretary, working in that capacity for over twenty years.
Over the years, Dolores would be promoted to the title of Grandma and then Great Grandma, with her family being the source of much pride. She was known to always speak her mind and had a wonderful talent crocheting and doing needlepoint; every member of the family was the recipient of one of her homemade Afghans or other thoughtful article over the years.
Preceded in death by her husband, Emanuel, and brother, Richard, she is survived by her five children and their spouses, Hillary and Richard Kosofsky, Jeffrey and Robin Zuber, Scott and Liz Zuber, Shelley and Spencer Silvers, and Risa and Jim Rucando; her grandchildren and their spouses, Brooke and Brian Glassberg, Allison and Jonathan Palcsesz, Courtney Rucando and Vinny Cavelli, Kelsey Rucando, Kendall Rucando, Shannon Zuber, Cassidy Zuber, Alana Zuber, Taylor and Matt Pennella, Alec Silvers, and Marielle Zuber; her great grandchildren, Eva Glassberg, Sydney and Mason Palcsesz, and Everly and Eliza Rucando-Cavelli; several extended family members; and many dear friends.
Life celebration and graveside services were private at Mt. Hebron cemetery, Woodbridge Township, NJ, under the care and direction of Wright & Ford Family Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 38 State Highway 31, Flemington, NJ.
