On March 30, 2023, Dr. Edward Joseph Schultz passed from this world at his home in College Station, TX. At the age of 60, he was far too young and will be missed by many.
Born on December 23, 1962, in Spring Valley, NY, he was the son of the late Leslie Edward Schultz, Sr., and Nancy Migliorato Schultz. He had resided in Hunterdon County, NJ, for many years prior to moving to Texas.
Graduating from Hunterdon Central Regional High School, Flemington, NJ, in 1981, Ed would continue on to earn his Bachelor’s Degree from NC State whereupon he then join his father and brothers in the family construction business.
During this time he had many hobbies, one of which was giving back to his community through volunteering as an Emergency Medical Technician with the Flemington-Raritan First Aid & Rescue Squad. Loving the thrill of emergency medicine, after a decade working for the family business, Ed decided to follow his true dream and with some hard work, was accepted into St. George’s Medical School in Grenada.
Graduating with honors, Ed would return home to the United States, pass his boards with ease, and complete his residency and fellowship in Emergency Medicine at Newark Beth Israel Hospital, Newark, NJ. A true “patient’s doctor”, Ed knew the value to listening to those he was caring for and was a master diagnostician.
With emergency medicine and its advancement at the heart of what Ed enjoyed learning about, he also had a passion for the sky and in his free time greatly enjoyed flying his Cessna 172. When not in the ER or in the sky, he collected guitars and enjoyed playing them at all times. Some of his favorite memories were sitting on the beach, by a fire, playing tunes for family and friends.
American Author Leo Buscaglia once wrote, “Too often we underestimate the power of a touch, a smile, a kind word, a listening ear, an honest accomplishment, or the smallest act of caring, all of which have the potential to turn a life around.” Dr. Edward Joseph Schultz spent his life being the epitome of those words, and his legacy will live on through the many generations of lives that he made better through his knowledge and compassion. To honor Ed is to live with a bit more love towards both friends and strangers, for as Ed believed, we are all God’s children and therefore, neither friends nor strangers, but rather, family.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Renald S. Schultz in 2004.
Surviving are his sister and brother-in-law, Jeanne and William Yancey; a brother, Leslie Edward Schultz, III; his niece and nephew, Kristen Lee Huffnagle and her husband Patrick, and Patrick Dylan Yancey and his wife, Charlotte; a great niece and two great nephews, Sebastian, Cecilia, and Liam Yancey; several extended family members; and many dear friends.
Committal prayers lead by Very Rev. Robert B. Kolakowski, JCD, and inurnment will take place on Monday, September 25, 2023, at 11:30 a.m., at St. Magdalen Mausoleum, North Main Street, Flemington, NJ, under the care and direction of Wright & Ford Family Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 38 State Highway 31, Flemington, NJ. All are welcome and asked to arrive at the mausoleum beginning at 11:15 a.m.
