Eduardo “Eddy” Seijido, age 55 years, of Raritan Township, NJ, died suddenly on Monday, October 12, 2020 at Ellis Hospital, Schenectady, NY while traveling on business.
Born on May 2, 1965 in Queens, NY, son of the late Juan and Narcisa Eva Cullell Seijido, Eddy was raised in Queens and had formerly lived in Rego Park, NY prior to moving to Raritan Township in 1995.
Passionate. Caring. Dedicated. Loving. Genuine. These are but several words that can try, but never truly capture the light that Eddy radiated each and every day.
Graduating from St. Francis Prep School in 1983, Eddy would attend Seton Hall University, before transferring to C.W. Post/Long Island University where he earned his BA.
Previously working at Campbell’s and Pinnacle Foods, Eddy was currently the Northeast Region Vice-President for Mission Foods where his leadership style and approachability were appreciated by both the top executives as well as by those just hired into entry-level positions in the company.
With his knowledge and ‘lead by example’ attitude, Eddy set a standard of excellence that was a hallmark of his work ethic. He rose to any occasion and encouraged everyone to make smart and educated decisions that were always in the best interest of the customer.
With a laugh and sense of humor that naturally made people feel instantly at-ease, Eddy’s true passion, besides his work and his love of the New York Yankees, was his three children and his family.
Upon holding his oldest daughter, Sydney, for the first time, Eddy realized what life was truly all about. Sydney would be followed three years later by a son, Sean, and a year later by another daughter, Shaylyn. His children fondly recall their father as the person they could turn to on any subject without fear of reprimand. No topic was taboo. Eddy encouraged each of them to travel their own path of life, and he helped illuminate that path for them in many ways without necessarily forcing them to do anything. He encouraged them that no dream was out of their reach if they made educated decisions, grounded in fact, but also trusting in their own heart.
Family was immensely important to Eddy, as he was the youngest of four children. Teaching their children ‘family values’, Eddy’s parents grounded all their children in the virtues of honesty and hard work. As the family grew, distance never broke the bond among the siblings and the cousins. Eddy became known as the person who would have everyone laughing at family gatherings. He was a wonderful storyteller whose wisdom went far beyond his fifty-five years.
Twelve years ago, Eddy met Ms. Amelia Carpio via an online dating site. Amelia vividly remembers Eddy’s online dating profile which was all about his children and how he loved being a father. While some people might have been scared by that, Amelia saw those words and photos as a sign of who Eddy truly was as a person. With trust, respect and good communication as the foundation of their relationship, Amelia and Eddy found companionship and love that only grew through the years. Additionally, Eddy loved and was loved by her children, Julie, Linda, and especially Sebastian, all of whom he was wonderful with and cared for deeply.
In addition to his family, his work, and the New York Yankees, Eddy was a golf fanatic who loved to play whenever and wherever he was able. He was also an avid baseball memorabilia collector. He enjoyed playing cards as well as listening to all types of music, especially classic rock. Action movies were always on the television, with ‘The Shawshank Redemption’ being on the top of his list of favorites.
In ‘The Shawshank Redemption’, one of the primary characters, Brooks, an elderly convict who gets paroled, says, “The world went and got itself in a big damn hurry.” Eddy’s legacy, which will surely be carried by anyone who met him, is that life, and every moment of it, should be cherished and appreciated. We sometimes rush though and don’t appreciate all the little things, which in the final equation, are the big things. This is the way he lived his life, and to honor Eddy is to try and live each moment with a bit more love in your heart and to follow the motto that he himself repeated often to his family and friends, “Never let your memories be greater than your dreams”.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his beloved Pomeranians, “Lucy” and “Ricky”.
Surviving are his children, Sydney E. Seijido, Sean E. Seijido, and Shaylyn E. Seijido; his life partner and best friend, Amelia Carpio; his siblings, Juan Seijido, Luis Seijido and his wife, Gloria, and Eva Seijido; several nieces, nephews, cousins, and extended family; his Mission Foods family; and many dear friends made throughout the world.
