On Sunday, April 23rd, 2023, Edward J. Petrowski passed away peacefully at the age of 78, surrounded by his family. He is now joined with the love of his life, Mary Jane.
Eddie was born in Bayonne, NJ, on October 22, 1944. He attended Bayonne High School and earned his bachelor’s and master’s degree at Jersey City State Teachers College. As a veteran during the Vietnam war, he was stationed in Alaska.
Edward started his career working for Maxwell House in Hoboken and attended school simultaneously. After earning his teaching degree, he taught at several schools in Bayonne as a science teacher. He married his wife, Mary Jane McCabe Petrowski on October 22, 1972, lived in Chatham, NJ, and then relocated to Long Valley, NJ in 2014.
Edward was loved by many people. He was an avid fisherman and spent many hours with his brother Mark fishing off the Jersey shore for striped bass. He loved to travel with his wife. Bermuda, Maine, and the Florida Keys were some of his favorite vacation destinations. Eddie and Mary Jane loved spending time in Mark and Doreen’s pool. There were many trips to Kean, NY, to visit Mary Jane’s brother, Tommy, and his wife Joy McCabe.
Eddie loved to socialize and make people laugh, and hit the casinos with his brother John, where he was pretty lucky. Watching football, cooking and fishing shows was also a favorite pastime. Eddie could often be seen sitting in his beloved Honda Ridgeline truck watching the fishing boats come in at the Atlantic Highlands.
Eddie was predeceased by his parents Joseph and Helena (Galazewski) Petrowski, and his beloved wife, Mary Jane McCabe Petrowski in 2022.
Eddie is survived by his brother Mark (wife Doreen Wrona-Petrowski), and his brother John (wife Billie Anne Tafaro). He is also survived by Mark and Doreen’s children, Jenna Marie Welch (husband Dan), his godson Joseph Tyler Petrowski, and of course his grand-niece Sadie Marie Welch (daughter of Jenna and Dan). Mark’s family was so happy to have had Eddie join them in their Florida vacations this past year.
Eddie was also a beloved member of his wife’s large family, in particular his niece Kelly Cooper. After Mary Jane passed, Kelly and Doreen became his pseudo wives and he often referred to them as his two wives. After Mary Jane’s passing, Eddie’s lifeline was his phone. Every day he called Mark (or Doreen), Kelly, John Petrowski, and Donald (Mary Jane’s brother) or Carol McCabe. His wife’s large family included four siblings, and numerous nieces and nephews and their families who he loved and in return was loved.
The Petrowski family and the McCabe family joined together to support his end of life care and wishes with extra guidance from his nephew and niece, Colin McCabe and Devon McCabe.
An intimate Celebration of his life will be planned for some time in the future.
