Elvia Ramirez, age 93 years, of Flemington, NJ, died on Saturday, August 26, 2017 at home, surrounded by her loving family under the caring eye of Hunterdon Hospice.
Born on June 14, 1924 in San Gil, Colombia, daughter of the late Manuel and Socorro Rueda Marquez, she had resided in Flemington for the past year and a half, having formerly lived in Branchburg, NJ, Basking Ridge, NJ and Forest Hills, Queens, NY.
Raised in Colombia, Elvia emigrated to the United States to be closer to her children in 1970. The matriarch and “Abuela” of her family, she was a loving mother, grandmother and great grandmother. Her sense of humor and ability to teach life lessons through stories, is a gift that she has left for her family to forever cherish.
Self-educated, she was a voracious reader and superb writer. Steadfast in faith, she particularly loved the Perpetuo Socorro. Elvia had formerly been a longtime member and attended daily mass at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Parish in Bernardsville, NJ.
Surviving are a daughter, Alix B. Pedroza of Flemington, NJ; a son and daughter-in-law, George M. and Maria Ramirez of Far Hills, NJ; a daughter, Maria Elizabeth Ramirez of Bogota, Colombia; a daughter, Maria Cristina Ramirez of New York City, NY; eight grandchildren; thirteen great grandchildren; and one great-great grandchild due in February of 2018.
A Mass of Christian Burial celebrated by Rev. Juan Carlos Gaviria will take place on Wednesday, August 30, 2017 at 10:00 a.m. in Our Lady of Perpetual Help Parish, 111 Claremont Road, Bernardsville, NJ 07924 under the care and direction of Wright & Ford Family Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 38 State Highway 31, Flemington, NJ 08822. Everyone is kindly asked to meet directly at the church on Wednesday morning by 9:45 a.m.
Committal prayers and cremation will follow in the Chapel of Somerset Hills Memorial Park Crematory, 95 Mt. Airy Road, Basking Ridge, NJ 07920. Interment of the cremains will take place in the Mausoleum at a later date.
Elvia will lie in repose on Tuesday, August 29, 2017 from 4:00-8:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
