Erich Zipfel, age 91 years, of Franklin Township, Hunterdon County, NJ, died on Monday, September 5, 2016 at Morristown Medical Center, Morristown, NJ.
Born in Basel, Switzerland, January 5, 1925, son of the late Ludwig and Luise Stephan Zipfel, he had resided in Franklin Township, NJ for the past forty-five years, having emigrated from Germany in 1950 and settling for several years in Piscataway, NJ.
A longtime communicant of St. Magdalen Church, Flemington, NJ, Erich faithfully served his country as a Corporal in the United States Army during the Korean War, being honorably discharged in 1953. He was the owner and operator of Erich Zipfel Plumbing & Heating, Flemington, NJ.
A proud sixty year member of the Deutscher Club of Clark, Clark, NJ Erich enjoyed beekeeping, gardening, traveling and spending time with his family. He was also involved with the Plainfield Gesang und Turnverein Club, for over thirty years.
He will be mostly remembered for being a strong and providing source of familial love to his wife, children, grandchildren, extended family and friends. His legacy will live on through them each and every day.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of fifty years, Gertrude Merzena Zipfel, who died in 2007; two brothers, Gottfried and Karl Zipfel; and a granddaughter, Christina Rose.
Surviving are a three daughters and two sons-in-laws, all of Flemington, NJ, Heidi and George Schaefer, Luise Zipfel, and Ericka and Christopher Hartsough; a sister, Irma Mueller in Germany; and two grandchildren, Katherine Elisabeth and Erich Thomas.
A Mass of Christian Burial celebrated by Rev. Timothy Christy will take place on Friday, September 9, 2016 at 11:00 a.m in St. Magdalen Church, 105 Mine Street, Flemington, NJ under the care and direction of Wright & Ford Family Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 38 State Highway 31, Flemington, NJ 08822.
Entombment with military honors will follow in St. Magdalen Mausoleum, North Main Street, Flemington, NJ.
Calling hours will be Thursday, September 8, 2016 from 6:00-8:00 p.m. and again on Friday, September 9, 2016 from 9:30-10:30 a.m., all at the funeral home.
