Eugene Pyatt, age 86 years, of Franklin Township, Hunterdon County, NJ, died suddenly but peacefully on Monday, April 15, 2024, at Hunterdon Medical Center.
Born on February 9, 1938, son of the late George and Anna Marsch Pyatt, he was a lifelong area resident, growing up in Croton, NJ, and graduating from Flemington High School as a member of the Class of 1956.
He was a former member of the Army National Guard based out of Flemington on Route 12 near his home. For many years, Gene was the face that was well-known at the ACME in Flemington, where he was the Assistant Manager. His kind demeanor and attention to detail were hallmarks of the work ethic his generation possessed.
Marrying the love of his life, Barbara Joan Redling on June 6, 1964, at the Calvary Orthodox Presbyterian Church of Amwell, Ringoes, NJ, the pair would go on to have a long and fruitful life together. Their union would bring them two sons, Glenn and Kevin, who would go on to create amazing families themselves; Gene relished the day he became a grandfather. There was not a school or sporting event he missed, and he was his grandkids biggest cheerleader.
Gentle, kind-hearted and loyal to a fault, Gene was simple and humble and will be remembered as a true trail-blazer. He enjoyed the races at the Flemington Speedway and also greatly enjoyed going to local high school baseball and football games, cheering on the local teams. He will be forever known as having the best lawn in the neighborhood as it was mowed daily, and also as the friendly face, along with his wife, behind the counter when the couple owned and operated the Flemington Coffee Shop in the Staples Shopping Center.
Though his presence will be missed, his legacy of love is emblazed on the hearts of all who knew him.
Surviving are his wife, Barbara Pyatt; his sons and their spouses, Eugene Glenn Pyatt and his wife, Tara O’Toole, and Kevin and his wife Dawn Pyatt; his grandchildren, Shelby Pyatt, and Megan, Ashley, and Michelle O’Toole; several extended family members; and many dear friends.
