Frank Allen, age 79 years, a thirty-three year resident of Delaware Township, NJ, died suddenly but peacefully on Wednesday, September 6, 2023, at his home.
Born on June 17, 1944, in Scranton, PA, son of the late Thomas and Ann Gibbons Allen, Frank’s adventurous spirit led him on a remarkable journey throughout his life that provided many joyous memories for him and all who crossed his path.
At the age of 13, he embarked on a new chapter, leaving Scranton and venturing to Texas, where he worked on a cattle ranch and later joined the esteemed ranks of the United States Navy. He served from 1961-1965 as an Aviation Electrician’s Mate, working on the ship as well as airplanes, being honorably discharged at the rank of E-5.
Following his military service, Frank traversed the globe as he had an insatiable thirst for knowledge and a remarkable intellect. He found his calling in the telecommunications industry, where his logistical expertise was revered. As a Logistics Planning Director at Underseas Cable, he traveled extensively, accumulating over 2 million miles in air travel. He played a pivotal role in bringing advanced communication technologies, such as cellular networks, to remote corners of the world.
Frank’s love for teaching extended beyond his career, as he mentored and guided countless individuals working in the telecommunications industry. His impact was immeasurable, as many whom he taught and inspired went on to flourish in their chosen fields.
Beyond his professional achievements, Frank had a generous and caring heart. He and his cherished wife, Linda, selflessly volunteered for the Red Cross, assisting in disaster-stricken areas caused by hurricanes and other natural calamities. Together, they traveled countless miles, often driving the large Red Cross Emergency Response Vehicle to help ease the suffering of those in need.
Frank’s passion for the skies never faded and led him to crew for hot air balloons in and around Hunterdon County, NJ. He also served as a Balloon Captain for the balloons in the annual Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade, spreading his contagious joy on the golden star balloons floating down Fifth Avenue.
Above all though, Frank cherished his family. He met Linda as she moved into the same apartment complex where he was living at the time, and after he burned up a pot of eggs that smelled up the entire building, their friendship blossomed into a beautiful love story. Frank’s work took them to St. Thomas US Virgin Islands where on June 17, 1983, they exchanged vows in St. Thomas, creating a lifetime of joyful memories together.
Frank will forever be remembered for his unwavering work ethic, his dedication to his loved ones, and his indomitable spirit. His smile and laughter will be vividly etched in our hearts, and the lessons he imparted will continue to guide us. Despite our grief, we take solace in the knowledge that he is at peace, reunited with those who went before him.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sisters, Regis, Peggy, and Rose; his brothers, Jerry, Joe, and Jim; and his daughter-in-law, Kimberly.
Surviving are his wife, Linda Armenti Allen; his children and their spouses, Patrick Allen, Peter and Carla Allen, Commander Paul Allen, USN-Ret. and Captain Janine Allen, USN-Ret., Marybeth and Todd Norton; and Rosanne and Mark Zeller; his siblings, Tom Allen, Pat Allen and Linda Benyola; his grandchildren, Ryan, Matthew, Mason, Madeline, Margaret, Adam, Sara and Scott; his great granddaughter, Adrianna; a brother-in-law, Robert Newhall; several extended family members; and many dear friends.
