Freida Galetti, (Geier) age 93 years, passed away peacefully on April 7, 2015 at Rolling Hills Care Center in Lebanon, NJ where she resided the past year. Prior to moving to RHCC she lived with her daughter and son-in-law, Barbara and Tom Basedow of Raritan Township for 17 years.
She was the wife of the late Jerome (Jim) S. Galetti, who died in 1997. She is survived by her 6 loving children, Diane Fontanetta and her husband Anthony (Jr.) of Coram, NY; Linda Galetti of Middle Village, NY, Barbara Basedow and her husband Thomas, of Raritan Township, NJ, Edward Galetti and his wife Ellen of Wake Forest, NC, Geraldine Bard and her husband Jonathan of Doylestown, PA, and Michael Galetti and his spouse Jerry Hall of Avondale, AZ; daughter-in-law Mindy Leon of Mesa, AZ; 16 grandchildren, and 11 great grandchildren.
Born in Columbus, NE on December 21, 1921 her family moved shortly after to Culbertson, NE to a 350 acre farmstead where she worked on the family farm. At age 25, she married Jim, meeting when he was in the army stationed in McCook, NE and moved to New York City. In later years, they moved to Long Island to be closer to their adult children and families.
Freida was a loving, caring wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend. Her role as a mother and grandmother defined her life. Nothing made her happier than spending time with family. She loved playing with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Her Nebraska family was always close in her heart, and she took any opportunity to load her children in the station wagon over summer vacation for a visit back home. In her later years, she continued visiting with her numerous sisters, brothers, nieces, nephews and their families in Nebraska.
Freida thoroughly enjoyed the five years she attended Briteside Adult Day Center In her late eighties and the memories she made there. She enjoyed a good game of Scrabble, putting together 1000 piece puzzles, going to Bingo and the racetrack, and watching Jeopardy and Wheel of Fortune.
She was a phenomenal cook making thousands of homemade spinach ravioli’s throughout her life as well as numerous pies, never able to keep up with the demand for them. She had a wicked sense of humor, loved to laugh and was known to be a bit mischievous. Her kind, sweet, loving ways touched the hearts of all who were fortunate to know her. To know her was to love her.
A private Celebration of her life will be held on April 19th. Memorial contributions in her memory can be made to Briteside Adult Care Center, 16 Sandhill Road, Flemington, NJ 08822.
