Geneva Marie Levasseur, age 89 years, of Warren, NJ, died peacefully on Tuesday, June 20, 2017 at Brightview Senior Living, Warren, NJ where she resided along with her husband, Yvan.
Born in Grand-Digue, New Brunswick, Canada, January 3, 1928, daughter of the late Aurele D. and Regina Levasseur, she came to the United States in 1962, living on the east coast, in the Midwest, and then in Morristown, NJ for fifteen years. She then moved to Palm Coast, FL twenty years ago before returning to New Jersey last month.
Geneva obtained a nursing degree and worked for a short time before becoming a mother, which was to become her greatest joy in life. Besides being a loving wife of sixty-three years, a mother, a grandmother, a sister, an aunt, and a devoted friend to many, was her love of entertaining her family and friends.
One of Geneva’s fondest and proudest memories is of when her father became a Senator in Canada. This achievement not only was proud in and of itself, but even more so by the fact that he was the first French speaking Senator from New Brunswick, Canada.
Her son-in-law, Michael Longchamp, was her primary caregiver, whom she loved and appreciated very much and who made the transition to New Jersey seamless.
Geneva was the youngest of six who have all preceded her in death. She also was predeceased by a son, Marc Levasseur, in 1998.
Surviving are her loving husband, Yvan, of Warren, NJ; her daughter, Michele Levasseur and her husband, Michael Longchamp of Flemington, NJ; two grandchildren, Gabrielle Levasseur Longchamp, who is following in her grandmother’s footsteps in healthcare; and Natalie Levasseur Longchamp, who is also much like her grandmother, being involved in entertainment.
A Vigil Service offered by Msgr. Randall Vashon will take place on Saturday, June 24, 2017 at 1:00 p.m. in Wright & Ford Family Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 38 State Highway 31, Flemington, NJ 08822. This will be followed by a period of gathering and remembrance until 2:30 p.m., at which time there will be a Celebration of Life ceremony conducted by Ruthann Brown of Celebration of a Lifetime.
The family will then be hosting an early dinner with continued fellowship at a location to be announced.
Interment will be private in Canada.
