George Otto Hubert, Jr., age 91 years, of Raritan Township, NJ, died peacefully on Sunday, April 30, 2023, at Hunterdon Care Center, Raritan Township, NJ.
Born on May 6, 1931, in Kearny, NJ, son of the late George Otto Hubert, Sr. and Julia Henyecz Hubert, he had resided in the Hunterdon County area for more than fifty years.
A Union Carpenter with Local #455, Somerville, NJ, George was an extremely hard and talented worker who was known to give the shirt off his back to anyone in need.
It was in the early 1950’s when at a Carpenter’s Dinner, he was hit with Cupid’s proverbial arrow as he was set up on a blind date by some friends with Ms. Lucy Kay Youngman. Though he was twenty-five and she only twenty, both of them knew at first sight that they were destined to spend the rest of their lives together. Joining hands in holy matrimony on December 15, 1956, at the Rectory at St. Magdalen Church on Park Avenue in Flemington, NJ, Lucy credits their longevity to never going to bed angry.
Building their home from the ground up, Lucy and George welcomed three children into their lives: George III, Karen, and Richard “Rick”, who sadly passed away suddenly in 2022. They taught their children to appreciate family and always to give praise to the good Lord who created them and gave them their own beautiful tools to do His work on Earth.
A longtime attendee of Amwell Church of the Brethren, George loved anything outdoors, especially gardening, cutting his lawn, and playing with his cherished dogs.
He was a music aficionado, and one never knew what he would be listening to as his tastes ranged from Willie Nelson to Burt Bacharach. He also enjoyed watching his Philadelphia Eagles and Phillies play to win.
With patriotism in his blood, he was a proud veteran of the United States Army, serving during the Korean War and being honorably discharged in 1953.
Though his death leaves a void in the hearts of so many, George would want all reading this to know he has been reunited with his son, Rick, and to remember the words of 1 Corinthians 15:55-57 which says, Where O death is your victory? Where, O Death, is your sting? The sting of death is sin, and the power of sin is the law. But thanks be to God! He gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.
Surviving are his wife of sixty-six years, Lucy Hubert; his son and daughter-in-law, George III and Cynthia Hubert; his daughter and son-in-law, Karen and Leon ‘Marvin’ Floyd; his daughter-in-law, Janet Hubert; his grandchildren, Jeanie and her husband, Tony Hall, Erin Hubert, Keith Floyd, John Floyd, Nicole Floyd Albino, and Tanis Floyd; his great grandchildren, Khian, Sophie, and Brayden; his sisters-in-law, Elizabeth Decker, Janet Thompson and her husband, Robert, Joyce Darida and her husband, Charlie, Eileen Valentine and her husband, Ronald, Linda Drzwoszewski, and Susan Peterson and her husband, Robert; several extended family members; and many dear friends.
