I was saddened to hear of Dr. Barads passing. He was a very special man to me and the Vermeulen family, as a physician, plantsman and friend. What a wonderful person he was and he will be missed.

I have known Jerry and Bea since my days at NYBG back in the early 90s and always looked forward to a visit to "Valley View" each year. Jerry was a wonderful person with a good sense of humor, powerful intellect, kind, and generous. We visited him this past fall, and he was still working with his plants and as usual proud to show off some specimens in the greenhouses. I hate to see him leave this world but at least he is now with his beloved Bea, whom he deeply missed and who was likewise a wonderful person. I and my wife are so glad we had the honor of knowing them both. Our deepest condolences to his family.

I had the privilege to meet Dr. Barad on Thursdays during the class at the FJCC for two years. He was inspiring for me and I enjoyed "the way he looked at life": people, animals and plants. I will hold Jerry and his family in my thoughts ... Johannes
