Helen Kertesz, age 99 years, of Raritan Township, NJ, died on Saturday, October 21, 2017 at home, surrounded by her loving family and under the caring watch of Hunterdon Hospice.
Born in Polany, Czechoslovakia, August 29, 1918, daughter of the late Stephan and Elizabeth Csicseri Yuhasz, Helen emigrated to the United States in 1938.
Upon her arrival, she worked at the Manhattan Shirt Company in Norwalk, CT. She soon met and fell in love with her future husband, Walter Kertesz. The two married on February 1, 1941 and lived for awhile in New York City, NY before moving to the Croton section of Raritan Township, NJ where Helen became a homemaker and pseudo-farmer, helping to raise several thousand chickens over the next several years.
Helen was known for her love to keep a clean and orderly house and yard. She was well known for riding her lawnmower, well into her golden years.
A longtime and faithful communicant of St. Magdalen Church, Flemington, NJ, Helen very much enjoyed participating with their Homebound Group this past year.
When reflecting on the life of this wonderful wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother and friend, it will always be said that she loved unconditionally, cared for all and was above all, a good and faithful servant to the Lord.
She was preceded in death by her husband of seventy years, Walter Gaza Kertesz in 2011, her son John in 2013, two brothers, Stephen and Lewis, and a sister, Elizabeth.
Surviving are her daughter and son-in-law, Carol and Clyde Mowrey of High Bridge, NJ; her grandchildren, Kelly and husband, Adam Balodis of Raritan Township, NJ and Danielle and husband, Angelo Rugama of Manville, NJ; her step granddaughter, Barbara Hochwarter of Bethlehem Township, PA; her great grandchildren, Annabelle Balodis, Maya and Indie Rugama and Jordyn Hochwarter; and many extended family and friends.
A Mass of Christian Burial celebrated by Rev. Kenneth Brighenti will take place on Friday, October 27, 2017 at 10:30 a.m. in St. Magdalen Church, 105 Mine Street Flemington, NJ under the care and direction of Wright & Ford Family Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 38 State Highway 31, Flemington, NJ.
Burial next to her beloved husband and son will follow in Prospect Hill Cemetery, 69 Capner Street, Flemington, NJ.
Helen will lay in repose on Thursday, October 26, 2017 from 5:00-8:00 p.m. and on Friday, October 27, 2017 from 9:00-10:00 a.m. at the funeral home.
