Helga E. Morisse, age 81 years, of Raritan Township, NJ, died on Saturday, June 4, 2016 at her home.
Born in Bremerhaven, Germany, July 10, 1934, daughter of the late Erik and Helene Rosendahl Morisse, she was a longtime area resident who was a retired Culture Technician with Johnson & Johnson Ethicon, Bridgewater, NJ where she had worked over thirty years.
Growing up during the war years and through tough times, strengthened Helga’s spirit and resolve; she was a deeply caring person who could handle anything that came her way as she traveled down life’s path.
She immigrated to the United States in 1956 aboard the S.S. United States, which was the world’s largest passenger vessel at the time. The ship, built by the United States and currently in dry dock in Philadelphia, PA, was at her time, the fastest ship in the world and made the trip from Bremerhaven to New York in just six days.
Among Helga’s interests were bowling, where she was a member of the “Spicy Seniors” and bowled frequently in Frenchtown, NJ. She also greatly enjoyed taking care of her home and gardens; she was very proud and fiercely independent mowing her own lawn well into her eighties.
She was preceded in death by a sister, Barbel Lorenz as well as her companion of forty years, Steven.
Surviving are two sisters, Gisela Raabe of Loxstedt, Germany and Liane Paul of Bremerhaven, Germany; a brother-in-law, Hanz Lorenz of Bremerhaven, Germany; her caregiver and close friend, Elfriede Hunt and her husband, Wayne of Ringoes, NJ; and several extended family members and friends
Funeral services officiated by Rev. James DeVries will take place on Tuesday, June 14, 2016 at 2:00 p.m. in Wright & Ford Family Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 38 State Highway 31, Flemington, NJ. This will be preceded by a visitation from 1:00-2:00 p.m. Helga will then be returned to her native Germany for burial.
Everyone is invited to visit Helga’s permanent memorial site at www.wrightfamily.com to send a public or private message of condolence and to share stories and photographs of her life.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Hunterdon Hospice, 2100 Wescott Drive, Flemington, NJ in thanks for the wonderful care they took of Helga during her final months.
