Hildegard “Hilda” Rocchetti, age 86 years, of Raritan Township, NJ, died peacefully in the early morning hours of Wednesday, December 23, 2020 at Hunterdon Care Center, Raritan Township, NJ.
Born in Fulda, Germany, May 9, 1934, she was raised in Germany during World War II and learned many lessons as a young girl about survival, faith, and humanity.
Meeting her future husband, Beniomino, on a blind-date when he was serving in the United States Army in Germany, the couple would fall in love and Hilda would come to the United States in 1958. She had resided in Raritan Township for more than fifty-three years.
The mother of four boys-Albert, Lewis, William, and Patrick- Hilda will be remembered as the quintessential mother who kept her four boys and their friends well fed and well loved.
All four recall their mother as always being there for them in every way, and also being the strongest woman they know. They each credit her tough childhood but deep faith with providing her a foundation on which to do good, and also give her the skills to raise four boys in a culture that was foreign to her at the time.
An abiding faith in God, Hilda was a longtime member of St. Magdalen Church, Flemington, NJ and was involved with its Homebound Group.
She believed in helping the community however possible, and was a longtime member and Past President of the Raritan Township Fire Co. Auxiliary. She was also involved in the knitting guild, and loved to knit blankets and other items that were then donated to the community. When she was younger, she was one of the leaders and hard workers who organized and ran the famous Bingo nights at the Flemington American Legion (later the Flemington-Raritan First Aid & Rescue Squad).
Her and the family also enjoyed spending many days and nights camping at the Jersey Shore, and the times especially at Sea Isle City and Wildwood, NJ, will not soon be forgotten.
Surviving are her four sons, Albert, Lewis, William, and Patrick; her grandchildren, Joseph, Benjamin, Lewis II and his wife, Sarah, Holly Dowling and her husband, John, and William; her two great grandchildren, Madison Marie Dowling and Parker Jack Dowling; several extended family members; and many dear friends.
Hilda will lie in repose on Tuesday, December 29, 2020 from Noon-1:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Wright & Ford Family Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 38 State Highway 31, Flemington, NJ 08822.
