Hillary H. Tobin, age 78 years, of East Amwell Township, NJ, died peacefully on Monday, June 15, 2020, at home, surrounded by her loving family and under the caring watch of Hunterdon Hospice.
Born in Norwalk, CT, May 30, 1942, daughter of the late Easton and Doris Barbour Harriman, she grew up in the Bronx, NY, and had lived in Raritan Borough and Bridgewater, NJ, prior to moving to Stockton in 1978.
An accomplished musician, Hillary graduated from the New York High School of Performing Arts (the school that “Fame” was based on), and was a well renowned oboe, accordion, and piano player.
She furthered her studies by earning a B.A. in education in 1964 from Bethany College, Bethany, WV, where she was a proud member of the Zeta Tau Alpha Sorority. It was during her early years of teaching sixth grade at the Washington School, Raritan, NJ, where the course of her life would be altered for the better. Not long after starting at Washington, she would meet Neal Tobin at work. The relationship grew over time and they would join hands in holy matrimony on August 2, 1969.
Hillary was an all-around athlete, being well-known for her pitching skills, as well as being a phenomenal football quarterback. She was a fan of all the New York sports teams, and also enjoyed attending country music concerts with her daughter.
She was a longtime and very faithful member of Kirkpatrick Memorial Presbyterian Church, Ringoes, NJ, where she could be found each week sitting in pew #21.
Hillary made an imprint on the hearts of all she came in contact with and will be lovingly remembered as a wonderful friend, devoted wife, mother, and grandmother, and a fierce protector of all her furry friends.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, Robert Harriman.
Surviving are her husband of fifty-one years, Neal Tobin; two sons and daughters-in-law, Brian and Maureen Tobin, and Chris and Kelli Tobin; a daughter and son-in-law, Beth and Kyle Chambers; her grandchildren, Colin, Kailey, Cody, and Emma; and many dear friends.
