Ina Lee Young, age 77 years, of Las Vegas, NV, passed peacefully in her bed on Monday, October 23, 2017 (3 Cheshvan 5778) at The Wentworth, Las Vegas, NV.
Born on January 16, 1940 in New Brunswick, NJ, daughter of the late Beatrice Bernstein Klein and Sidney Klein.
Ina Lee grew up in North Plainfield before moving to Trenton, NJ where she attended Trenton State earning a degree in K-12 education.
Teaching elementary school in Trenton in the 1960’s, she used to bring bread and peanut butter to feed her students before class; “children can’t learn on an empty stomach,” she would say.
Ina Lee Young created the gifted and talented program for Junior High School #3 and would often share stories from returning students who were grateful for her guidance. She also worked with some of the most challenging students in the school. Despite sometimes hostile encounters with some of those difficult students, she continued to share art, music and literature with her students.
While in Trenton she enjoyed her weekly mah jong games with “the girls”. Ina Lee kept a tin with coins and a few decks of cards close to the dining room table, always ready for a game of nickel-dime poker. She was an active member of the PTO for her daughter’s school and Sisterhood for Har Saini Temple.
A loving mother, she shared her love of reading, theater, and cooking with her daughter Karen Walsh.
Ina Lee was predeceased by her parents, Beatrice and Sidney Klein.
She is survived by her daughter, Karen Walsh and her partner, Richard Hotchkiss, of Flemington, NJ; a grandson, Jake Walsh, of Flemington, NJ; a granddaughter, Abby Walsh, of Santa Cruz, CA; as well as her dear brother and sister-in-law, Roger and Judi Klein; a nephew, Seth Klein; and a niece and nephew-in-law, Alison and Robert Henn, and their daughter.
