Jane F. Gilbertson, age 76 years, of Washington Boro, NJ, died on Tuesday, August 15, 2017 in the Hunterdon Medical Center, Raritan Township, NJ with her loving husband of fifty-five years, Richard, holding her hand.
Born in Summit, NJ, May 5, 1941, daughter of the late Elmer Stokes, Sr. and Florence Lillian Stewart Stokes, she was raised in Morris Plains, NJ and had formerly lived in Garwood and Flemington, NJ prior to moving to Washington Boro two years ago.
She was a longtime clerk for Westfield Cleaners, Westfield, NJ where many remember her welcoming smile and ability to make their day just a bit better.
A Matriarch in every sense of the word, Jane was a mother to everyone she met and most simply called her, “Nanny”. As her husband Richard said, “She has the biggest heart in the entire world.” The two recently celebrated fifty-five years of marriage on May 5 of this year, fondly remembering their wedding day back in 1962 when they were married at Morris Plains Presbyterian Church.
Jane was a woman that you just gravitated to; she radiated warmth and love and was someone who people just felt comfortable talking to, as she was never one to judge. This unconditional aspect of love that she taught her family is the enduring piece of her legacy that so many will cherish and live better lives because of Jane’s presence in their lives.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a son-in-law, Joseph P. Wilds, Sr.
Surviving are her husband, Richard James Gilbertson; two daughters and a son-in-law, Wendy Wilds of Washington, NJ and Patricia and Anthony Gazzillo of Hellertown, PA; her “son” and “daughter”, Douglas and Susan Grant whom she considered her other children; a brother and sister-in-law, Elmer and Patricia Stokes, Jr.; a sister and brother-in-law, Florence and Robert Macleod; her grandchildren, Joseph P. Wilds, Jr. and his fiance, Brooke, Jessica and husband, Scott Zur, Samantha and husband, Robert Keyes, Miguel Toban, Kelly Grant, Niki Grant and Aliyah Gazzillo; her great grandchildren, Olivia Jane Keyes, Clara Josephine Keyes and Walter Joseph Zur; a great grandson due in October fondly called “Eddie” by Jane who was so excited about his upcoming arrival; several nieces, nephews and extended family; and many friends.
