Jean Louise Serridge (1954-2024)
Loving mother, GiGi, sister, aunt, and wife. Her children, grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and animals were her entire world.
Jean Louise Serridge (Lebitz), age 70, of Ringoes, NJ, died from Cancer at Hunterdon Medical Center on February 29, 2024.
She was born in Tarrytown, NY, in 1954 to Harriet and Fred Lebitz. Her mother passed away when she was only 12. At a young age, she took on the caregiver role as a mother figure to her youngest brother Michael.
She married Michael Serridge on June 14, 1987, after a whirlwind romance of only being together a few months. Michael passed away November 2, 2022.
She was filled with life and love the day she adopted her twins, Rebecca Ann Sokoloski and David Michael Sokoloski. She would dress up as the Easter bunny and enjoy egg hunts in the Spring and would host fun Halloween birthday parties for the twins in the Fall.
Her son David sadly passed away at the young age of 29 on September 15, 2014. Her heart and her spirit changed that day.
Her daughter, Rebecca Keyes (Sokoloski) and husband, Daniel Keyes, got married June 18, 2016, and she could not have been more proud or happy for her daughter to start a family of her own. In February 2017, they had their first puppy, Charlie, whom she spoiled rotten. In August 2018, William David was born and he reignited the spark in GiGi’s heart.
Although she loved her animals (more than most humans), her true joy came from spending time with her grandkids, Serenity, William, and Julian. She treasured her time with her grandkids and loved being their GiGi. Every time she saw them, she would surprise them with a cool game to play, puzzle, toy, or clothes. She would bake, decorate, play games, even get on the floor, and just roll around and have fun with them. They were her world.
Jean was also very close with her two brothers, Michael and Bruce, and her sister (best friend) Sharon. They each raised their families together as they all lived within 20 minutes of each other.
Jean had many nieces and nephews who loved her dearly. They would all spend time with Jean by the river camping, fishing, and just enjoying spending time together.
Jean had a soft spot for her furry friends, treating each one like the valuable family member they were. She even rescued two squirrels, Stewart and Johnny, and had a Macaw, General. She lived on the river and would rescue the ducklings from the muskrats and release them when they were big enough.
Jean always had a way of making lots of friends wherever she went. Her friend Kay lived up the street and she never had to worry about going away because she knew Jean would take care of her animals and her home.
She loved her time as a school bus driver and would even go into work early in winter to start up everyone’s bus, so that all the kids would be warm.
Jean was “selfless”. Always concerned with others and never concerned with herself. Even in her last days, she chose to put others feelings before her own. Jean will always be remembered and forever cherished in all hearts.
