The Kingdom of Heaven welcomed home Mr. John Anderson, age 84 years, on Thursday, February 8, 2024.
John was born in Frenchtown, NJ. He then lived in various places throughout his beloved Hunterdon County, until settling down in his forever home on scenic Old Croton Road in Flemington, NJ, with his loving wife of forty-two years, Marlene “Molly” (Layeski).
John grew up exploring and living in multiple places throughout Hunterdon County including Frenchtown, Milford, Alexandria, and finally in Flemington, John and his true love, Molly, bought a home and moved to Flemington, NJ, in 1979. John and Marlene joined hands in holy matrimony on May 22, 1980. Always extremely handy and mechanically inclined, he and Marlene renovated the home and created a beautiful place to live, complete with a frog pond that kept his grandchildren entertained for hours on end. They truly found their forever soulmate and enjoyed forty-two years of marriage. Together they enjoyed traveling to Virginia to the Chincoteague Oyster Festival, where they would have oysters steamed or on the half shell.
Extremely industrious, John worked as a micro machinist for Ethicon in Raritan, NJ – but also followed in his father’s footsteps selling automobiles on the side from time to time – always Fords. After retiring, he proudly worked part-time as a driver for Flemington Ford for many years.
John was an avid outdoorsman and a long-time member of the Croton Rod & Gun Club, where he proudly dedicated many hours of service and brotherhood. Throughout his life, he was an avid fan of local sports – primarily high school wrestling and football. If there was a tournament or a good match in the area, you could always find him in the stands with his lifelong friend, Wayne Crouse. Most recently, he enjoyed watching his grandson Blake’s basketball and baseball games, whenever he could. Between local events, he was a stalwart Philadelphia Eagles and Phillies fan.
In addition to his parents, Arthur and Margaret Anderson, John is preceded in death by his wife, Molly and his brother, Lawrence.
He is survived by his daughter, Sharlotte; son, John D. Anderson, Jr. and his wife, Susan; grandchildren, Brittany, Madison, Erica, Jaclyn, Mason, Rachel, and Blake; great-grandchildren, Alexandra, Isabella, and Arianna; three brothers, Arthur, William and his wife, Betty, and Joseph and his wife, Laura; and many dear friends.
John’s family would like to extend their sincere thanks to the Bushkill Township Police, as well as the teams from the Hunterdon Medical Center and Lehigh Valley Healthcare who guided his healthcare over the years.
John will lie in repose on Thursday, February 15, 2024, from 4:00-6:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Wright & Ford Family Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 38 State Highway 31, Flemington, NJ.
