John Joseph “Jay” Windfelder, age 74 years, of Titusville, PA, died on Saturday, September 17, 2016 in Florham Park, NJ, with his two loving daughters by his side.
Born in Scranton, PA, April 13, 1942, Jay lived many years in the Pittsburgh, PA area before moving to Belin, NM and eventually moving back to Titusville, PA to spend more time with his family. He had resided with his daughter in Florham Park, NJ since March, having come to New Jersey for medical treatment in his courageous fight against stomach cancer.
Jay faithfully served his country during the Vietnam War as a member of the United States Army and was honorably discharged at the war’s end, where he served in the United States Army Reserves for several more years.
A graduate of Penn State with a degree in business, Jay was the retired President of Avonite, Belin, NM, a subsidiary of U.S. Steel, where he served for many years.
He enjoyed playing golf and in his younger years, was a well-known and respected wrestler, winning the following titles: WPIAL Wrestling Champion 1958, Undefeated at Penn State 1964, Eastern Interscholastic Wrestling Champion 1964 and NCAA All American Penn State 1965.
To sum up Jay’s life in a simple way: he rose above many challenges that were thrust upon him throughout his life to become a champion wrestler, successful businessman, and most importantly, a great father and true family man. He will certainly be missed, but the goodness that is and always will be John Joseph “Jay” Windfelder, will never fade from the hearts that are left to continue his legacy.
Surviving are two daughters and sons-in-law, Tammy Lee Windfelder and Patrick Dolan of Florham Park, NJ and Nikki Windfelder Howard and Michael Howard of Snoqualmie, WA; five grandchildren, Margaret Lee Dolan, Allison O’Rourke Dolan, John David (J.D.) Howard, Samantha Jane Howard and Evelyn Nicole Howard; his mother, Mary Vogal Fulton; his siblings, Tom Windfelder and wife, Carol, Judy Lohr Wagner, Anne Voltz, Mary Lou Strawbridge, Neal Fulton, Frannie Fulton, and Warren Fulton; and many friends.
Funeral services and cremation are private under the care and direction of Wright & Ford Family Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 38 State Highway 31, Flemington, NJ.
