John Peter Kachmar, Jr., age 91 years, of Mount Dora, FL, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, July 26, 2016 at Cornerstone Hospice, Tavares, FL after a short illness.
Born in Pittstown, NJ, May 16, 1925, son of the late John Peter, Sr. and Veronica Horromada Kachmar, he had formerly resided for many years in Flemington, NJ and Danville, PA.
A 1944 graduate of Flemington High School, John faithfully served his country during World War II in the United States Army Air Force as a flight engineer. Stationed in England and serving in the European Theater, John was part of the 8th Air Force, 445th Bomber Division serving under General James Doolittle as his commander. He served until 1945 when he was honorably discharged at the rank of Technical Sergeant, receiving several awards and medals for his service.
In 1950, John married his first and only love, Elsa Makatura. This past January, they celebrated sixty-six wonderful years of marriage together; this legacy of love is something that is admired by all who knew them as a couple.
John was a prominent and well-respected Professional Auctioneer, owning and operating along, with his wife, Kachmar Auction Service, for over forty-five years. He formerly served as President of the NJ Society of Auctioneering.
After he retired from auctioneering, John and Elsa moved to Danville, PA where they spent twenty-five years before moving to Mount Dora, FL.
A longtime member of both the Flemington American Legion and V.F.W., John was also a faithful and devoted communicant of St. Magdalen Church, Flemington, NJ.
His traits of hard work, honesty, genuineness and faith are but several of the ideals that help to define the legacy of a man who would assist a friend with anything they needed or help a complete stranger in their time of need. That is the legacy John leaves for all those who knew him.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Mary Ann Kachmar in 2014.
Surviving are his beloved wife, Elsa Kachmar; his children, Roseanna Backer and husband, James of Mount Dora, FL, Veronica Wisowaty of Danville, PA, John Kachmar III and wife, Sharon of East Greenville, PA, Elizabeth Kachmar of Danville, PA and David Kachmar and wife, Lisa of Milton, PA; ten grandchildren; two great grandsons; and many extended family and friends.
