I just learned of John's passing last week only tonight. My niece Sharon posted it on facebook. I am so sorry for his family . I can't believe that I missed the posting in last weeks Democrat. I usually buy the paper every week and always read the obituary page. The one week I did not I miss such sad news. Please know that if I had known I would have been to the service for sure. As it turned out I missed buying the paper that week because I was wrapped up in my own family sadness. The week before my sister-in-law and my brother had come home to NJ for a "final visit" to see everyone in the family. My sister -in-law is suffering with brain tumors and incurable cancer and her wish was to get back to NJ(from Tucson, Arizona)one more time. She arrived on the 4th and we all had a big family gathering for her, but the trip became too much for her and she ended up in the hospital the following Monday and remained their until this past Friday. I was with my brother the whole day at the hospital on Wed. and Thurs., so I never picked up the paper. I want you all to know that I for one appreciated how loving and kind John was to Mom Duckworth for so many years. We always knew John was the man that Mary and her family could count on to take good care of her. I must say I was somewhat surprised that the years spent with her were not mentioned, since it was the biggest part of his life, but I accept the reasons you all may have chosen not to mention it. He was a terrific guy and a hard working man his whole life and someone his children could look up to and respect. My sympathy is with all of you. Marlene

I was so saddened to hear of your dad's passing. He was one of the few people I "let in". I cherish the days we spent together and the his gift of friendship and especially his feisty side. He loved his family so very much and cherished you so. I miss him terribly. Lisa, RN

We first met John and Mary at a K of C breakfast at St. Magdalens about 20 years ago. We were new to Flemington and they made us feel most welcome. Later John waylayed me into ushering at Saturday Mass. We will always remember John fondly as the traffic director at 5:00 Mass. He was the genuine article and we miss him.
