June Lorraine Search, age 70 years, of South Plainfield, NJ, former longtime Hunterdon County, NJ, resident, died suddenly on Friday, March 17, 2023, at JFK Medical Center, Edison, NJ.
Born on June 5, 1952, in Somerville, NJ, daughter of the late George and Margaret Zidzik Jones, she had lived for many years in Hunterdon and Somerset counties prior to moving to South Plainfield twenty-five years ago.
A ‘Jack of all Trades’, June worked at Lipton Tea and Hunterdon Medical Center, as well as Home Depot for many years. She was well regarded by all her colleagues as a hard worker who put her full effort into each and every job duty.
Sweet, giving, and kind, June loved unconditionally and freely gave that love to everyone she met. Extremely thoughtful, she enjoyed learning about a person so she could do things to bring joy into their life; and if she knew you liked something, she would always have a supply on hand of that item for you. It was her way of showing a person that they were thought about with love and respect. Even the animals got gifts when June was around and that made for many happy puppies over the years!
A phenomenal chef, meal time was more than just a time to eat for June; it was an event where memories were made and amazing food shared. She would always ensure she made two or three times more than was needed as everyone always went home with several Tupperware’s full of meals for the week (and usually they contained the person’s favorites that June would make on the side for them just because she knew they enjoyed it).
The first female firefighter in Kingwood Township, NJ, June’s life is reflective of that spirit of giving back to her community. In addition to cooking and volunteering, June greatly enjoyed traveling, with the Panama Canal and the Caribbean being among her favorite places to go, especially on a Princess Cruise. She also enjoyed flamingos and bird watching in general, model trains, and she loved anything to do with watermelons! Spending time at her home on Elk Lake in Pennsylvania was also the source of many happy memories for her and her family.
Though her passing was sudden, June would want all reading this to remember the following words, and to put them in action always: “Love does not die, people do. So when all that is left of me is love, give me away as best as you can.”
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sisters, Margaret “Cookie” Mittasch and Tammy Jones; and her brothers, George and Michael Jones.
Surviving are her husband, Robert Figler; her daughter and her partner, Melody Search-Gettel and Jason Hagerty; her son and daughter-in-law, Daniel and Emily Jones; her step-daughter, Elise Figler and her husband, Dylan Kellagher; her step-sons, Eric Figler and his wife, Alexandra Szebenyi and Dylan Figler and his partner, Alyssa DeLuca; her sister, Rose Acuna; her grandchildren, Hailey Gettel, Brianna Gettel, Amber Jones, Katylyn Jones, and RJ Hagerty; several nieces, nephews, cousins, and extended family; and many dear friends.
