Katherine A. (Holichork) Iatridis, 81, passed away peacefully on Monday , September 28, 2015 at the Hunterdon Care Center in Flemington, NJ.
Born in NYC and raised in Brooklyn, NY, Katherine lived in Flemington, NJ for the past 3 years. She was a longtime resident of the Woodstock and Kingston areas in NY, and has resided in Charlotte, NC and Boca Raton, FL. She told many stories of her younger years living on Hart Street in Brooklyn, surrounded by extended family.
She was a registered nurse for many years and loved her work. Her fondest memories were of her work at Benedictine Hospital in Kingston, NY. Her commitment to the medical field is exemplified by her decision to make a full body donation to the Anatomical Association of the RWJ Medical School.
Katherine (Kay) loved to travel, particularly cruising, and visited many places around the world. Her trips have taken her to Russia, Scotland, Alaska, Hawaii and many more. She loved her kids and grandkids and enjoyed hosting traditional family get-togethers. She was a strong, independent woman who liked to joke around and have fun with her family. She enjoyed family camping trips for many years. She was an avid game player, and taught her kids to enjoy playing cards, board games, and her favorite Scrabble. Watching Jeopardy is a tradition handed down to the entire family. After retiring, she also spent time reading, cooking and baking, and doing jigsaw and crossword puzzles.
She was predeceased by husband Donald Iatridis in 2002, and her brother Anthony Holichork in 2008.
Katherine leaves behind her loving children: son Matthew Iatridis and wife Janet, daughter Linda Stichter, and son Tony Iatridis. She has 5 grandchildren who will miss her very much: Michael, Anthea, RaeAnn, David and Zachary. She has been the family matriarch for all of us and for many cousins, nieces and nephews, including first cousin Barbara Ellison, who will fill that role in the future.
The family would also like to thank the staff at Hunterdon Care Center and Independence Manor for taking good care of Katherine.
A private memorial service will be held for family and close friends under the guidance of Wright & Ford Family Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 38 State Highway 31, Flemington, NJ 08822.
