Lawrence A. “Larry” Ferrari, Ph.D., age 77 years, of Hazelton, PA and Raritan Township, NJ, died on Saturday, March 7, 2015 in the Hunterdon Medical Center, Raritan Township, NJ.
Born in Hackensack, NJ, November 30, 1937, son of the late Lawrence and Anna Rossi Ferrari, he had resided in Raritan Township for the past thirty years, Hazelton, PA for the past fourteen years and prior to that had lived in River Vale, NJ for many years.
Larry received his M.E. from Stevens Institute of Technology, Hoboken, NJ in 1958. That was followed by his M.S. in Physics in 1960 then his Ph.D. in Physics in 1965, all from Stevens Institute of Technology.
He first was a researcher at Brookhaven National Laboratory, Brookhaven, NY and then went on to become a Professor of Physics at Queens College for thirty years until his retirement. Post retirement, he taught several classes at Ursinis College and Lafayette College.
A humble man who preferred to be called “Larry” rather than “Dr. Ferrari,” he was the recipient of many awards in his field. He published over twenty-six papers in referred journals and presented an additional fifteen papers at professional colloquiums. At the time of his death, he had several other papers in final draft form as well as a book manuscript.
Larry was a charter member and served for over ten years on the Raritan Township Affordable Housing Board. He also was very involved in the Hunterdon County Senior Center where he taught various computer courses. One of his favorite and longtime activities was being involved with Boy Scout Troop #194, Flemington, NJ, where he served as a member of the Troop Committee and Eagle Scout Advisor for over fifteen years.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, John Stephen Ferrari in 2001 as well as an infant son, Michael Robert Ferrari in 1976.
Surviving are his wife, Mildred M. Woods Ferrari with whom he celebrated fifty years of marriage on October 17, 2014. He is also survived by two daughters, Jeanne Marie Ferrari of Holland Township, NJ and Christina Ferrari of Raritan Township, NJ.
