Mark Adam Pavol, age 53 years, of East Amwell Township, NJ, died a hero on Thursday, September 2, 2021, in East Amwell Township, NJ, while saving the lives of others during the tropical storm.

Born on July 6, 1968, in Somerville, NJ, he was the son of the late Adam and Florence Pauline Pavol. Raised in Manville, NJ, Mark was a lifelong area resident. Mark leaves behind his wife, three daughters, son-in-law, two grandchildren, sisters and brothers-in-law, Jackie and Ed Carmon and Jane and Tom Connell, his sisters-in-law and brother-in-law, Cynthia Poulson and Cindy and Fred Poulson, his nephews, Ryan and Corey Carmon, Tommy and Tyler Connell and Gary and Scott Poulson, several extended family members, and many dear friends.

Destined for greatness since youth, Mark will forever be remembered by anyone he met as having a strong work ethic, a never-ending drive, and an amazing determination which allowed him to fulfill his goals and provide a life for his family that made him extremely proud. He also was gifted with an amazing sense of humor and loved by all.

With a heart of gold and a spirit of selflessness, he was consistently doing anything he could for whoever needed him, putting others’ needs in front of his own at every turn. This value system provided Mark with a strong foundation, and as a father, he was able to instill these same attributes in his children. His love of family, friends, and appreciation of the simple pleasures in life are remembered and will forever be cherished.

Married to his wife Diane, Mark always made it known to anyone that she was truly the love of his life, and it was her whom he loved above all else. Together, the couple raised three children in which they instilled those core values and beliefs of family, love, and loyalty. Their oldest daughter, Ariel, is a middle school language arts teacher and is married to her husband, Chris, whom Mark loved as one of his own. Chris and Ariel are raising two daughters, Halsie Claire and Renlie Mae, who loved their grandfather more than anything in the world. Their Big Papi was and always will be a huge influence in their lives. Mark’s middle daughter, Brie, is currently attending Veterinary School, using her father’s determination and drive to push her through the program and succeed in her goal. His youngest daughter, Cayla Rae, is also attending college at Rutgers University to follow in her father’s footsteps in becoming a successful entrepreneur and leader.

Mark’s lifetime dream was to drive a boat into the horizon with his wife and fish his way around the world. In his eyes, if a person was going to do something, it needed to be done correctly and to the best of their ability. In the words of Mark Adam Pavol, “If you want to be a bear, you gotta be a grizzly.” His family will forever live by his words, taking the world by storm and being their best versions of themselves in order to make him proud.

His pure joy of life and compassion for others is reflected by the kind words, prayers, and thoughts that the family has received during this very difficult time. Diane and the entire Pavol family wish to thank everyone who has expressed their condolences.

Diane, I am so sorry to hear about this tragedy and my heart goes out to all of you. Mark was larger than life and a great man. I was a friend and neighbor of Jimmy & Patty if you recall they introduced us. We spent times together having lots of laughs at the Bayville house and on our boats. It's taken me some time since Mark's passing to find the words and I still don't have them as I'm still in shock. Mark was the little brother I never had. Always a pleasure to be around and always smiling and laughing. All my love and condolences to those who loved him and who have gained a true guardian angel to guide them through life's journey. His legacy will live on. Fair winds and following seas my brother.

Gina and I are very saddened by the passing of Mark and extend our deepest condolensces to the entire Pavol family. He was an amazing individual not just as a boss but I considered him a friend as well. Always with a funny comment or booming laugh. I'll miss our many car conversations. Mark was the person you WANTED to work for. He was always there to speak with and was always concerned about how you were doing. He made us all feel like family. You will be missed by all you came in contact with.

Diane and girls- my heart has been breaking since I heard the news of Mark passing...I couldn't and wouldn't believe it at first. It is no surprise he came to the rescue of those in need. I will forever miss the welcome Mark and your whole family has given to George and I, even when we parted ways only to come back as if we never left. I already, and will continue to miss his big smile and happy wave to us and Ava as we passed the house on the boat. I will always remember Mark, and what a caring person he was.

A valued friend and one of two great role models for me at magicJack. I've always admired his business ethics and his devotion to family. At dinners after work when he was in town, he'd say, "I just want to be home with my family." That and, "Leave the salad in the garden" when ordering a burger. The only thing greater than my heavy heart is how privileged and incredibly lucky I feel to have met Mark so many moons ago at Tel-Save and the many years that followed. Solid as a rock, Mark knew when it was time for work and time for play. I cherish it all.

I’ve known and worked in telecom with Mark for over a decade. He was one great guy and his act of heroism comes as no surprise at all to me from what I knew of him personally. My sincerest condolences and prayers go out to his family. He will be missed.

Mark and Diane welcomed us as neighbors down the shore from the day our family moved in. We all became fast friends. Mark was always the first one to help when we needed anything, and never failed to invite us over to join in on their fun. We are so grateful to have gotten to know Mark in the short time that we did, and will never forget how warm and welcoming his family has been to us. We always talked about how lucky we are to have such great neighbors down the shore, and it could not be more true. When I think of Mark I can still hear him say “ Hey Snook”, as he was walking over to say hello. As you can imagine I’m 4’11 and standing next to this man I basically would disappear as he gave me a big hug hello. His smile would make me smile. My thoughts are with the entire Pavol family. Mark was the an outstanding human being and had a keen sense of understanding the human condition more than most. During our childhood he had an innate capacity to communicate with his big beautiful blues eyes. He never had to speak a word, you constantly knew what he was thinking by the way he would look at you. Mark selected words that would make you believe there were no limits and always gave of himself for others.
