Martha Cecilia Anderson, age 60 years, of Raritan Township, NJ, died peacefully at home on Saturday, May 25, 2024, surrounded by her loving family and under the caring watch of Hunterdon Hospice.
Born on July 21, 1963, in her home country of Ecuador, Cecilia as she was lovingly called by everyone, was raised through some of life’s most difficult challenges yet she became the epitome of the American Dream. At age 24, she made the brave and arduous journey to the United States where she would eventually meet her husband, Gary, and be joined later by her brother and cousins in her new home of New Jersey. Even in times of uncertainty and hardship, she continued to be the most generous and giving woman to not only her own family and friends, but also to her community and her church.
Cecilia lived a humble life devoted to God, but as many know, she also devoted herself to caring for children and helping raise many kids over the years. Being a mom came easy to Cecilia- she was a natural born mother with all of those unteachable motherly instincts. To her daughter’s knowledge, she helped raise over 15 children. She was always so proud of “her babies” and where life took them, and looked forward to hearing of all of their milestones and accomplishments.
Cecilia also had an impressive reputation for growing anything and everything in her garden with her husband Gary. The two made an excellent pair in their pursuit to fill the backyard with every variety of fruits, vegetables, and flowers. Often cooking up a storm big enough to feed an army, most days Cecilia was able to make entire meals just from the fruits of her labor (literally). Her green thumb and love of nature kept her grounded in her Ecuadorian roots throughout her life.
Following her cancer diagnosis in 2023, her family didn’t hesitate to come and be by her side all the way from South America. Throughout her treatments she stayed loyal and faithful to God, while fighting an unimaginable fight against cholangiocarcinoma. She was constantly tended to and loved by her family until God called her home on May 25th, 2024.
A wonderful wife, mother, sister, aunt and friend to many, we remember Cecilia, for how much she gave and put into the world: her love of flowers and gardening, her impeccable cooking, the way she cared for and helped raise many children, and for the caring motherly figure she was and will always be.
A truly selfless person who dedicated her life to making sure those around her were well taken care of and loved, Cecilia is survived by her loving husband, Gary; her daughter, Vanessa and son-in-law, William; her two step-children; Matthew and Michael; her siblings, Olga Beatriz, Bernardita Rosario, Rosa Fabiola, Jose Mesias, and Robert John; and her nieces, nephews, and godchildren. She joins her first born daughter, Melissa, her parents, her sister, and other beloved family members in eternal rest.
In God’s Care, and until we meet again, our dear Cecilia, rest in eternal love. “En Los Brazos de Dios”
