Martha Helen Young, 80, of Newport News, VA, passed away peacefully on February 17, 2024 at Riverside Regional Medical Center, with her family by her side.

Martha was born in Vineland, NJ to Sydney Young and Helen (Wheeler) Young. She lived in different towns in New Jersey, Pennsylvania, and New York during her childhood and graduated from South Hunterdon Regional High School while living in Lambertville, NJ. She attended Trenton State College in Ewing, NJ.

Martha raised her three children while working full-time at Johanna Farms Dairies in Flemington, NJ, where she ultimately became Credit Manager. After leaving Johanna Farms, she worked for Dole, Tropicana, and G & J Steel. After retiring from G & J Steel, she moved to Newport News, VA.

During her life, Martha could be found helping others. She volunteered for many organizations, including libraries, food pantries, and even assisted her in-laws by dispatching police, fire, and rescue squads for emergencies in Lambertville and West Amwell, NJ. Martha was a servant of God and held close to her religious beliefs.

She is survived by her children, Donna (William) O’Neill of Lambertville, NJ, Jacqueline Ortman of Hillsborough, NJ, and Lawrence (Karen) Scheetz, Jr of Flemington, NJ; grandchildren, Maryann Paulina, Kimberly and Patrick O’Neill, Jason Ortman, Colleen, Matthew, and Alexander Scheetz; great-grandchildren, Payton and Jameson O’Neill; brothers, Francis (Margaret) Young of Greensboro, NC, and Lewis (Judy) Young of Papua New Guinea as well as many nieces, nephews, and friends.

Memorial Services Virginia were held on Saturday, March 16, 2024 at the Weymouth Funeral Home, 12746 Nettles Drive, Newport News, VA 23606.

In New Jersey, friends and family are invited to gather together to celebrate Martha’s life on Saturday, June 1, 2024, from 1:00-2:00 p.m., at Wright & Ford Family Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 38 State Highway 31, Flemington, NJ.

A Life Celebration service will follow the gathering beginning at 2:00 p.m. at the funeral home, and all are invited to bring heartfelt memories to share.
