Marty was born July 9, 1935 in Philadelphia, PA, the son of the late Conrad Martin Fuchs and Winifred Connolly Fuchs. Born and raised in the Fairview section of Camden, NJ, Marty graduated from Camden Catholic High School. Marty attended St. Joseph’s University in Philadelphia, earning a Bachelor of Science. Following college, Marty joined the military and is a proud veteran of the U.S. Army.
Following his U.S. Army service, Marty met his wife Mary Lou Cranmer, also of Camden, NJ. Marty and Mary Lou were married October 5, 1963 at St. Joan of Arc Church in Camden, NJ. Marty and Mary Lou celebrated over 57 years of marriage and raised two children, Michael and Scott. They initially lived in Fairview NJ, and lived in Hamburg NY prior to settling in Neshanic Station NJ in 1979.
Marty earned his Chartered Property Casualty Underwriter (CPCU) designation, which is the premier designation in the property casualty insurance industry. Marty worked for Crum & Forster Insurance Company, Morristown, NJ, where he held a variety of roles of increasing responsibility, including head of the Buffalo NY office and Assistant Vice-President for Planning and Training. He was well regarded by his colleagues and peers for his leadership, the quality of his work, and his approach regardless of the circumstance.
Marty was a devout Catholic, and was a longtime and faithful parishioner of St. Ann’s Church, Raritan, NJ.
Marty was the strong, silent, and responsible type whose actions spoke louder than words. Marty was a devoted husband, who was always there for Mary Lou not only during the good times, of which there were many, but also during the most difficult of times, especially when she was seriously ill. Marty was a supportive, caring, loving, and forgiving father; who provided a strong moral foundation while allowing his children to make their own decisions while finding their way. Marty was also a proud grandfather who loved his grandchildren very much.
Marty had many hobbies. He was an avid photographer, over the years taking many pictures of both family and different landscapes, many of which he further developed into art. Marty enjoyed gardening with Mary Lou, including the multiple flower beds at their home. Marty was an avid fan of old movies, including westerns with John Wayne and dance movies with Fred Astaire and Gene Kelly. Marty was an avid reader and greatly enjoyed classic fiction, history and philosophy books.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his mother-in-law and father-in-law with whom he was very close, Louis and Mary Cranmer.
Surviving are his cherished wife, Mary Lou Fuchs; a son and daughter-in-law, Michael and Kristin Fuchs and their twins, Braden and Finleigh; a son and daughter-in-law, Scott and Tanya Fuchs, three grandchildren; four great grandchildren; several extended family members; and many dear friends.
Marty will lie in repose on Tuesday, January 12, 2021 from 10:00-11:00 a.m. in the Chapel of Wright & Ford Family Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 38 State Highway 31, Flemington, NJ 08822.
A Mass of Christian Burial, officiated by Rev. Tom Odorizzi, will be celebrated at St. Ann’s Church, 45 Anderson Street, Raritan, NJ 08869 on Tuesday, January 12, 2021 beginning at noon.

Following mass, Marty will be buried with military honors at 2:00 p.m. at Washington Crossing National Cemetery, 830 Highland Road, Newtown, PA 18940, and to which all are welcomed. If you are meeting the funeral cortege at the cemetery, please note that we will be meeting at the main office/funeral staging area.
Kindly remember that given the current state of the pandemic, masks must be worn at all times on funeral home, church, and cemetery grounds, and social distancing must be maintained. Please follow the instructions of the Wright & Ford Care Team Family Ambassadors upon arrival at each location.
