I am so very sorry to hear of Mary’s death. Mary and I were best friends in grammar school while living on Story Avenue in the Bronx. We attended Holy Cross. I lost touch with Mary after she married. I have searched for her on several occasions. We lived upstairs in the same building. The Lynch’s had 8 children and our family, the Bruno’s, also had 8 children. We were all close friends. Please give my condolences to the family. I have always thought very fondly of Mary. She was a close young childhood friend. Sincerely, Theresa Bruno ??

Our heartfelt condolences from the Perry Family to Shannon, Sean, Jimmy and your families. We share so many memories with your mom and dad over the years as wonderful neighbors and teachers. (Your dad taught both Sammie and Christian guitar) I wanted to share this lovely picture of Mary at a yoga gathering. Your mom showed up ready to help out even with her broken wrist! Mom's contributions to the local community and beyond were immense. I miss her everyday as she attended yoga most days along with being one of the "loyal three" in our Wednesday class. Peace and healing to you all, Monahan and Lynch families.

David Woodley left a message on March 5, 2021:
I remember fondly meeting Mary at Emily and Jim's wedding up by Cornell University, along with other members of Jim's family, many who were there from Ireland. It was a wonderful wedding celebration, and we all had a fantastic almost rollicking time. I loved talking to Mary, who just like Jim, likes to smile and laugh, but who also has a quiet, steady, gentle, way about her. With today's memorial mass and church service (which was so moving and beautiful), I understand that Mary had a quiet, steady faith too and volunteered and contributed much to others. The priest choked up remembering his first encounter with Mary when he was a new priest. That part really got me. My sincere condolences to Jim and to all of Jim's family both here in America and in Ireland. David T. Woodley, M.D. (husband of the mother-in-law, Janet Fairley)

That was the most lovely mass and burial. Fr. Michael was so touching. I'm glad he was there to send Mary off to Heaven. The soil from Ireland gives her the gift of home.
Rebecca Puglia left a message on March 5, 2021:
I met Mary in yoga about 2 years ago. I liked her right away. She was so genuine and down-to-earth. We had some nice talks about Ireland and about the walking trip she took just after her knee surgery. I could tell she was a very special person and I was so looking forward to continuing our budding friendship once our class began meeting in person again. I watched the beautiful eulogies given by her children today. Their grace and humanity was overwhelming. Families like this hold up the world which makes the tragedy of Mary's death so heartbreaking, even for those of us who did not know her well.

But I also can't help but feel joy on your behalves for having been blessed with such an amazing Mom, for having been nurtured and warmed throughout life by her unconditional love, for inheriting and keeping aflame her legacy of goodness and light. Please accept my deepest condolences on the tragic loss of Mary. She was taken too soon. The service and eulogies were just beautiful. I don't live in NJ anymore and I was so happy to be able to attend this service via the live stream and virtually meet Mary's beautiful children who I have heard so much about. Mary was very proud of her children. I had the privilege to work with Mary while volunteering with the Fresh Air Fund. I was fortunate to chaperone on the bus with Mary several times, so I had a chance to spend a good amount of time with Mary. Mary made everyone around her feel special. She had a smile and a laugh that would light up the room. I can hear it now. She had such a kind way of imparting her vast wisdom. I ALWAYS learned something from Mary; she was a role model and an inspiration. I can't believe she is gone but I will forever hold her in my heart.

Shannon, Sean, and Jimmy, your Mom has left an incredible legacy. She accomplished so much in the time she was given on this earth, and countless children’s lives have been touched and enriched by her efforts. She made a difference in the world. She was a doer, not an observer. It is amazing how much she packed into her short life. She was devoted to her grandchildren, and it is heartbreaking that she will not be with you all to help guide them as they grow up. She very much loved spending time with her family. John, Michael, Jimmy and I send our deepest sympathies. We are all so saddened by her passing. Our hearts go out to you.

We were all very saddened to hear of Mrs. Monahan's untimely passing. She was such a special, caring, dedicated lady, who I first met in 2008 when the first of my three grandchildren attended Jugtown Mtn Nursery School. They all flourished and made some lasting friendships while Mrs. Monahan gently guided them toward their futures. I chose this picture because their daily story time, with Mrs. Monahan in her rocking chair, was a special time for her and the children. My daughter, Denise (Szewczuk), grandchildren, Aidan, Kylin, and Paige, and I want you to know how much your mother was loved and will be missed. She was taken much too soon--she had so many more things to do in her life.

I did not have the pleasure of knowing Mary personally, but I work at The Fresh Air Fund and I have heard wonderful stories about Mary's kindness and generosity. Her life was a gift to so many. Her family's love for her jumps out of the page of her obituary. What a wonderful woman who did so much for others and who lives lived fully and with joy. My deepest condolences to her family and friends, losing such a treasured person way too soon. Also, on a personal note, the loss of Mary touches my heart because my own Irish immigrant parents (Kerry and Clare) were also part of that immigrant wave to the Bronx and Queens. And I can picture the spunk of a young Irish girl that elopes at age 18! Atta girl, Mary! My heart and prayers are with you. "May God hold you in the palm of his hand." And may she rest in peace.
