Michael Hock Kiong Pang, age 91 years, of Devon, PA, passed peacefully on Sunday, June 6, 2021 while surrounded by his loving family.
Born on February 5, 1930 in Sandakan, Malaysia, to Pang Tien Choi and Pang Yong Oi Jin, he enjoyed fishing and hunting with his siblings and spending time with his large family.
Michael went to Hong Kong to attend St. Stephen’s College Preparatory School and later became a senior customs inspector. He met the love of his life, Ye Wa Mak, and they married in 1956. They immigrated to the United States with their five beloved children in 1970.
While making a home in a new country, Michael and Ye Wa overcame hardships to raise their children to be loving, successful, and family-oriented adults. Michael also enjoyed working in the restaurant industry in New Jersey, making many friends and connections along the way.
Above all, Michael was a family man. He felt happiest when everyone was gathered together for holidays and birthdays. Michael was also an avid fan of professional boxing, wrestling, and baseball and could usually be found in his signature slouch position when watching television. In his later years, Michael’s favorite pastime was sneaking sweets when he thought no one was looking.
Despite having moved away from Malaysia over 50 years prior, Michael continued to stay connected and fondly miss his homeland and his siblings, nieces, nephews, and other extended family overseas. The patriarch of the family, he will be forever remembered for his friendly, outgoing, warm, and kind spirit.
In addition to his parents, Michael is preceded in death by his seven siblings.
Michael is survived by his devoted wife, Ye Wa Mak; five children and their spouses: Ronald (Mei), Nora Lin (Sam), Alan (Jeannie), Norman (Lisa), and Susan Carlson (Doug); and younger sister, Fu Pang Hock Yung. Michael will also be lovingly remembered by his ten grandchildren: Stephanie (George), Jonathan (Alyssa), Jennifer, Christopher, Kaitlin, Michael, Tiffany, Jason, Brian, and Lauren, as well as four great-grandchildren: Everly, Eli, Nolan, and Miles.
Visitation will be on Sunday, June 13, 2021, from 3:00-5:00 p.m. and Monday, June 14, 2021, from 10:00-10:45am in the Chapel of Wright & Ford Family Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 38 State Highway 31, Flemington, NJ, 08822.
A Funeral Service will be officiated by Rev. Philip Y.M Wong following the visitation, Monday, June 14, 2021 at 10:45am to which all are welcome.
