Mildred “Milly” Zacharias Voegele, age 92 years, of Franklin Township, Hunterdon County, NJ, died on Friday, August 20, 2021 at home, surrounded by her loving family and under the caring watch of Hunterdon Hospice.
Born on September 2, 1928 in New York City, NY, daughter of the late Emil and Matilda Neumann Zacharias, she was a lifelong Hunterdon County resident, having been raised on her parents farm in Pittstown, NJ.
With a faith that grounded her and a love that was all encompassing, Milly was a true matriarch in that her selfless, nurturing ways made her the person that everyone would turn to for guidance and a listening ear.
Always putting others first, Milly worked for many years at RCA in Bridgewater, NJ as a telephone operator where her character shone through her voice and the company was happy that Milly was welcoming it customers when they called.
Hard work, engrained into her persona as farm girl, was more so that Milly could provide for her family. She was a dedicated mother and grandmother who never missed a dance recital or the opportunity to spoil her grandkids. She and her late husband, Frederick, made sure that family knew their home was one whose door was always open.
Having many hobbies, Milly loved to travel around the world as well as go camping and of course, dance the Jitterbug whenever the opportunity arose! Her ‘spunk’ was infectious and her saying of, “Let’s go where the wind blows…” is especially poignant in that she always encouraged everyone to follow and chase their dreams.
A longtime member of St. Paul Lutheran Church, Flemington, NJ, she was also known to never say ‘Goodbye”, as that is permanent and she believed in the scripture which promises a mansion with many rooms for all of God’s children. Instead, so would say, “Toodaloo”, as a reminder to all that she will see you again…
Surviving are her daughter with whom she lived for the past twenty plus years, Robyn Voegele; a son and daughter-in-law, Frederick G. “Rick” and Roseann Voegele; her twin sister who was older by fifteen minutes, Margaret Anna “Margy” McGrath; her siblings, George Buechler, Alice Castner, Edna “Honey” Vesely, and Clifford Zacharias; her grandchildren, Fritzi Lynn Buck and her partner, Tim Thompson, Jeryn Gayle Luise and her husband, Brandon, Frederick W. “Ricky” Voegele II and his wife, Rebecca, Virginia Rose Voegele and her fiancé, Michael Pierman; and Merrick James Rinaldi; her great grandchildren, Madison, Landon, Noah, Tripp, Sloan, Peter, and Parker; her son-in-law, Michael Waisempacher; her devoted dogs, Molly and Tink; and many friends made wherever she went.
