Nick Fedorko, Jr. died January 17, 2015 in his home at Acorn Glen Assisted Living in Princeton, New Jersey. He was 92. Nick was born June 10, 1922 in Oil City, PA, a mining village near Portage, PA., to Nick and Mary (Kachurchak) Fedorko. He was a resident of Hunterdon County, NJ for sixty-five years before moving to Princeton in the fall of 2012. Nick graduated from Portage Township High School in 1940. He then worked for a short time as a coal miner next to his father in the Sonman Shaft Coal Company mine near Portage. Soon after, he left for work in Cleveland, Ohio. With the outbreak of World War II, he enlisted in the US Army, serving as a Corporal in the Battery C 480th Anti-Aircraft Artillery Battalion that landed on Omaha Beach in 1944, one month after D-Day. After the war he went to New Jersey to marry the love of his life, Mary Madaychik. Nick attended Lafayette College in Easton, PA. He served as a member of the Delaware Valley Regional School Board in Hunterdon County, NJ from 1964 to 1973, as a Kingwood Township Committeeman, and as an enthusiastic coach of the Kingwood Braves Little League team. As a parts manager for International Harvester dealers Dorf Equipment and Supply Company and Van Zandt Sales and Service, both in Flemington, NJ, he could readily identify a farm equipment part, as well as recite its multiple-digit part number, for farmers who came in needing a replacement. He enjoyed investing, reading, and helping friends and neighbors whenever the need arose. A strong believer in higher education, he supported his children and grandchildren in their educational endeavors and told any young person he met to be sure to get a college education.
