Philip Silber, age 61 years, of Clinton, NJ, died on Sunday, January 22, 2017 (24 Tevet 5777.)
Philip, mentally handicapped since birth, was a beloved gift to his family. He taught his parents, siblings, nieces and nephews life lessons about unconditional love, tolerance and compassion.
Born in Teaneck, NJ, on October 2, 1955, son of Gloria Marcus Silber of Greensboro, NC and the late Gene Silber, Philip had been a resident of the Hunterdon Developmental Center for over forty years.
Philip loved to sing and listen to all types of music. Philip was known for greeting every day with a tie around his neck, an infectious smile on his face, and an outstretched hand ready for holding. He loved watching the news, riding his bike, and most of all, seeing his mommy and daddy.
Philip’s family would like to extend a special thanks to all those at the Hunterdon Developmental Center for the genuine love with which they took care of Philip.
Surviving, in addition to his cherished mother, are three devoted sisters and their spouses, Linda and David Birnbaum of Chapel Hill, NC, Susan Silber and June Peters of Tacoma Park, MD and Debra Silber and Jeffrey Medoff of Greensboro, NC; his loving nieces and nephews, Bernie and Rachel, Holly and Jason, Lisa, Danielle, Avi, Kara and Dov, Ari and Diana, Sar and Liz, Mica, Carmi and Gena; his adored great nieces and great nephews, Ariel, Matan, Diana, Riley, Audrey, Bridget, Shai, Juliet and Asher; and his caring Hunterdon Developmental Center family.
Funeral services and burial in Judea Reform Congregation Cemetery, Chapel Hill, NC, will take place under the direction of Hudson Funeral Home, 211 South Miami Boulevard, Durham, NC, 27703, Telephone: 919-596-8269.
The family is being cared for and assisted in New Jersey by Wright & Ford Family Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 38 State Highway 31, Flemington, NJ, 08822. There will be a gathering of the HDC family on Monday afternoon at the funeral home prior to Philip being transported to North Carolina.
