Robert Alan Goldberg, MSW, age 66 years, of Haddam, CT, died on Saturday, July 23, 2016 in the Hospice Unit of Middlesex Hospital, Middletown, CT.
Born in Mt. Vernon, NY, May 16, 1950, son of the late Harvey Ian Goldberg and Lillian Muriel Goldberg Kutscher, he had formerly resided in South Setauket and Scarsdale, NY.
A graduate of Farleigh-Dickinson and Tulane Universities, Bob spent many years as a social worker fundraising and grant-writing for charitable events. In the past few years, he turned his attention to running a business that cleaned houses and auctioned their contents, a job that fueled his love of collecting and selling antiques.
Bob was happiest when traveling with his wife Sharon, with whom he explored both the US and countries abroad, most recently taking a month long trip to Italy during which he took a collection of pictures of Sharon taking pictures of things.
Bob’s pleasures in life included classic car shows, good scotch, strong black coffee, blues music, Chinese food with his siblings and their families, and instilling his children with an appreciation of sushi, practical jokes, and how to properly load the dishwasher.
Bob will be remembered as a kind and compassionate father, a loving and devoted husband, a loyal and insightful brother, a wonderful friend, and to those who know him best, a man with a twisted, warped, and sneaky sense of humor.
His intelligence and good-nature will forever stay in the hearts of those who loved him, and his family will carry on his legacy of thinking beyond themselves and teaching others both the practical and emotional lessons that Bob passed on to them.
In addition to his parents, Harvey and Lillian, he was preceded in death by his step-father who raised him as his own son, Austin “Bill” Harrison Kutscher, D.D.S. in 2007.
Surviving are his wife, Sharon Traeger Goldberg, with whom he would of celebrated thirty-one years of marriage on July 27 of this year; a daughter, Becky Leigh Goldberg Petty of Farmingdale, NY; two sons, Jesse Aaron Goldberg and Zachary Harris Goldberg, both of Las Vegas, NV; his siblings, Michael R. Goldberg, MD, Ph.D., of Westlake Village, CA, Carol Goldberg Maeder Tisserand, MSW of Rutledge, PA, Richard B. Goldberg of San Francisco, CA, Harlan A. Kutscher, MD of Reading, PA, Austin H. “Ken” Kutscher, Jr., MD of Flemington, NJ and Martin L. Kutscher, MD of Goldens Bridge, NY; several nieces and nephews; and many friends.
