I have just this day, 4-17-2018 learned of Sgt."Skips" passing. I served in Vietnam with him 1969-1970. He had been there 5-6 months by the time I arrived so he also rotated home before me as well. Yes, we all called him "Sgt Skip". Having read his obit I see that he never changed. I arrived in Vietnam as a PFC and he was already a Sgt. In the Marine Corps, that is a big difference in rank but you wouldn't have known it with him. He showed me the "ropes" over my first few months and we became good friends. He was kinda like my older brother and ALWAYS happy and upbeat. We both saw a lot of bad and a good bit of good over there. I spoke with him by phone in 1971 or 72 to get his address. I owed him $100 and sent it. He called me back weeks later to say he got it & thanked me. Life has a way of dominating us with jobs, family, etc and we never spoke after that. I'm soon to be 69 yrs. old so I'll see him again soon. I know he'll keep the light on for me. I loved "Sgt Skip" like a brother and have/will never forget him. SEMPER FI my brother!!! To Bob's family: I just read Bob's obit & read that his funeral was yesterday & I missed it. I would have liked to go to pay my respects. I was Bob's neighbor & lived across the street. Bob was a kind & sweet man & since I moved away often thought of him & planned to go visit him but life got busy & I never made it but I always thought of him. I was a single Mom & he always looked out for me & one time he put in a new floor for me even though he had pain in his legs I knew it was hard but he never complained. He loved meeting his friends for a cappacino at the Flemington Bakery & once we shared one too, he would get excited when his new coins would arrive in the mail, enjoyed going to AC, was proud of his chili & was very proud of his grandchildren. Rest In Peace my friend & please know that your friendship left a lasting memory with me. My deepest condolences to the family.
