Robert Lawrence Wilt, age 70 years, of Raritan Township, NJ, died on Friday, April 7, 2017 in Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital, New Brunswick, NJ.
Born in New York City, NY, October 19, 1946, son of the late John and Margaret Ferrier Wilt, he had formerly resided in West New York, NJ and Jacksonville, NC.
Known to many as “Bob” or “Wilt” or “Poppy,” he was retired from AGFA, Somerville, NJ.
Bob faithfully served his country as a member of the United States Marine Corps during Vietnam and was honorably discharged at the rank of Sergeant in 1970. He was a longtime member of the Flemington American Legion Post #159 and the Flemington V.F.W. Post #7856. He was also a member of the Flemington Moose, the Marine Corps League and also served in the New Jersey National Guard.
Bob was the guy who cared for everyone he met. Chances are, you were the recipient of food from Bob, either homemade or otherwise, and that was his way of getting to know you and assist with whatever you needed.
He was an avid coin collector and loved playing cards. He frequented Atlantic City where he would enjoy deep-sea fishing, casinos and spending time with family and friends.
Strong-willed, Bob strove to better himself each day along with those around him. He fought back against many medical ailments over the past few years, all with a smile on his face. This legacy of being strong in the face of adversity, coupled with his kindness, are the core values he helped to instill in his children and grandchildren who will help carry on his legacy.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by four brothers, William “Bill” Wilt, Edward Wilt, George Wilt and John Wilt, Jr.
Surviving are his loving and devoted wife of forty-five years with whom he joined hands in marriage on November 13, 1971, Rebecca Castillo Wilt; a son and daughter-in-law, Neal and Bonnie Wilt of Flemington, NJ; a daughter and son-in-law, Crystal Wilt and Xavier Le Clainche of New York City, NY; five grandchildren, Zachary, Alexandra, Thibault, Xavier and Clara; a brother and his wife, Richard and Wilma Wilt of Ringoes, NJ; two sisters, Margaret Orr of Bel Air, MD and Rose-Marie Marsh of Flemington, NJ; several nieces, nephews, cousins; and many friends.
