The Kingdom of Heaven welcomed home Mr. Robert W. Chobin, Sr., age 79, on January 23, 2024.
Bob was born in Glen Cove, NY. He then lived in Plainfield and Scotch Plains, NJ. He was happily married to his loving and dedicated wife, Nancy (nee Gallo), for 53 years. In addition to Nancy, he is survived by his daughter, Heidi, his son, Robert Chobin Jr., and his granddaughter, Hailey.
Extremely industrious, Bob worked on the initial NASA lunar module while working for Grumman Aerospace, and later became a chemical technician for Celanese. He then worked for Diamond Shamrock (when Celanese sold off their chemical division), and ultimately Henkel Corporation (when Diamond Shamrock sold off their chemical division). He was listed on several patents for corrosion inhibitors for metals and concrete of which he was most proud.
Bob moved to Hunterdon Country in 1973 and fell in love with the rural landscape. He built a home in Clinton Township and resided there for over 52 years. He loved his home and the plethora of wild life that filled the backyard, while his faithful companion, the family cat, Will, kept him company. Although he was a quiet person, he loved to joke around with a litany of jokes he memorized. His other passions were spending time with his family or going for a leisurely drive in his red Jeep. Those who knew him saw his kind heart, gentle nature and love of family.
He was preceded in death by his father, Stephen Chobin, his mother, Helen Chobin, and his brother, John Chobin.
Bob’s family would like to extend their sincere thanks to the South Branch Rescue Squad, as well as the teams from the Hunterdon Medical Center Emergency Department, Intensive Care Unit, and Hospice for their diligent and tender care of Bob and the entire family.
Family and friends will gather for Life Celebration Committal Prayers on Saturday, January 27, 2024, at 10:00 a.m. in the Chapel Mausoleum at Resurrection Cemetery, 899 East Lincoln Avenue, Piscataway, NJ, under the care and direction of Wright & Ford Family Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 38 State Highway 31, Flemington, NJ.
