Scott Robert Edge, age 47 years, of Raritan Township, NJ, died peacefully on Tuesday, May 9, 2023, at New York- Presbyterian Hospital/Weill Cornell Medical Center, New York, NY, as a result of injuries sustained in a motor vehicle accident in New York City several weeks ago.
A Christmas miracle baby, Scott was born at Maimonides Hospital, Brooklyn, NY, on December 25, 1975. Son of Janet Strochansky Edge and Robert Edge of Raritan Township, Scott was raised in Brooklyn, NY, and East Brunswick, NJ, before moving to Flemington in 1985.
Graduating from Hunterdon Central Regional High School in 1994, Scott would work for General Motors, first in Linden, NJ, and then after that plant closed, moving to Youngstown, OH. He had been back in the New Jersey area for the past twenty years as a result of becoming disabled due to the development of a rare medical disease.
After a long and arduous mysterious medical journey, Scott was diagnosed with Charcot Foot, a rare and painful issue that resulted in among other things, his left leg being amputated. The illness and resulting physical limitations did not stop Scott though, and he was pushing himself each day to get to new heights, whatever they may be; he did this with the support of his loving and devoted parents, who were there for him in all ways, as well as with the love and support of family and friends.
With a kind soul, Scott was a man who did for others, however he was able. With a dry sense of humor, he made everyone laugh and smile and reminded them often to live each day to its fullest and to love your neighbor as your brother.
An athlete in his day, Scott was an avid skier and never met a black diamond he could not conquer. He was a die-hard New York Mets fan and enjoyed spending time at his parent’s vacation home in Anna Marie Island, FL.
Winning an art contest in kindergarten, he developed a bug for art in all forms and enjoyed everything from painting to sketching to sculpting. He attended the Rhode Island School of Design and among all forms of artistry, he developed a true affection for music. A part of the marching band in high school, Scott also worked as a Disc Jockey for a period of time, and he loved seeing people dance and smile as the many parties and weddings he helped to make special through his words and music. He also had a large vinal LP collection that would make the most dedicated collector envious! Much of his free time was spent scouring the record shops in NYC and Brooklyn for old LP’s.
Though his sudden and tragic death is something that can never be fully comprehended, Scott’s faith would want all reading to this to remember he is in the place promised in John 14, and that one day, we will all be reunited again.
Surviving, in addition to his mother and father, are his sister; Jill Edge; his great aunt and great uncle who also were his Godparents, Barbara and Bernie Jeckel; his great aunt, Lois Kania, his aunt, Maureen Strochansky; his cousin, Lynn and her husband, Andrew Stefanik; several extended family members; and many dear friends.
