Susan Eleanor Osberg, age 68 years, of High Bridge, NJ, died on Thursday, July 27, 2017 in Hunterdon Medical Center, Raritan Township, NJ.
Susan was born on May 9, 1949, the only child of Frederick Carl Osberg and Dorothy Graham Osberg. She spent her early childhood in Australia and India, where her father’s job as a marine engineer had taken her family. She completed grammar and high school in Connecticut, and then moved to New York City in the early 1970s. There she worked first as an editor at a publishing house, and then on Wall Street. There she surely made men stammer and shuffle. There she also met her life-long best friend Shirley Caputo.
Susan moved to Lebanon Borough in the late 1990’s and began making friends in Hunterdon County. In Lebanon, she resided with her widowed aunt Marion Graham, whose declining years were sweetened by her companionship and care. After Marion’s death she moved to High Bridge, where she lived until her own passing.
In High Bridge, Susan quickly befriended her neighbors Joe and Rose Trilone, whose foundering garden spaces burst into bloom under her benevolent auspices. She lived contentedly, loving and being loved by her formidable but friendly cat, Harley(quin), enjoying her friends, gardening, reading like a fiend possessed (a sort of Google incarnate for questions on empires, conquests, coups, defenestrations, Ptolemies, Tudors, ad inf.) and cracking wondrous wise – especially when confronting officiousness and bureaucracy of any sort.
She fought her lung cancer valiantly, mostly at home with care from her loving neighbor Rose, but passed on July 27, 2017. Susan was predeceased by both of her parents and by Roderick Powell, the love of her life. She is survived by her cousins Gordon Graham of Belvidere, NJ, David Graham of Seneca, SC and Thomas Graham of Queens, NY.
Funeral services and cremation at the Chapel of Ewing Crematory, Ewing Township, NJ, are private under the care and direction of Wright & Ford Family Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 38 State Highway 31, Flemington, NJ.
