Susan Mary Picarella Marcella, 68, of Annandale, NJ, passed away on the evening of April 9, 2025.

Susan was born on December 22, 1956 to Dominic and Mary Picarella in Morristown, NJ. After graduating Phi Beta Kappa from the University of Virginia with a BA in English, Susan earned her MBA from New York University and began her career working at IBM.

Susan married Stephen Marcella, with whom she had two children: Dominic and David. She was known above all for her compassion, intelligence, and service to others. In addition to serving on the Readington Township Board of Education, Susan was an active and cherished member of Church of the Holy Spirit, where she frequently volunteered.

She had a well-earned reputation as an excellent writer, a welcoming host, a dedicated mother and daughter, and an extraordinary friend. Everyone was welcome in Susan’s house, and she exuded a love and warmth that continues to inspire those she left behind. She lived to help others, and she tirelessly cared for her mother, father, and uncle in their final years. Beloved by all those who knew her, the light she brought to this earth lingers in the hearts of all those she touched and continues to make the world a brighter place.

Susan is survived by her children, Dominic and David, as well as her brother Dominic Picarella and her sister-in-law Monica Picarella. She also leaves behind her niece and goddaughter Gabrielle Tanzman, nephew Alex Picarella, and her cousin Karen DeBenedictis.

A memorial service will take place from 1:00 p.m.–2:00 p.m. on Sunday, May 25th, 2025 at the Church of the Holy Spirit in Lebanon, NJ.
